Hello,
I am researching a church in Laurens, SC. The church history indicates the church had to sell off a two acre parcel of property a year (1846) after the church was built. The sale of the land was to prevent a Sheriffs Sale. No reason was given for the debt that was due that forced the sale of the property.
The history was written by a person that had first hand knolwege of the sale, so I guess he didn't feel the need to record the reason for it.
I went to the Laurens County Museum and found the Sheriff Sale books; however the book for 1846 was missing. I did find books that were called Writs and Instruments, but I didn't have time to look in those.
Since the sheriff sale did not happen I am wondering if there would be a document that would warn of a pending sheriff sale.
Any help would be appreciated.
