Does anybody a place in South Carolina that might have any newspaper clippings of a slave runaway?

My gggg grandfather left with his 3 daughters and went to Mississippi in the 1860s. I thought that was strange so I wondered if he ran away or he was just let go. This would have happened around 1862-1863. His name was Tom and his youngest daughter was Maranda but was called Rannie. Tom changed his last name to Durant when he got to MS so I don't have a clue about his life in S.C.
