The census takers have destroyed the name. I am searching for any information on the surname. I found a Samuel S, Leger in Lowndes Co. Ga 1860, married to a Martha from Fl. Samuel states he was born in SC abt 1822. Served in the Civil War and died before 1870 after his service. Found in Fl a Moses S, Leger from SC. whom I believe is the father to Samuel. 1830 Santee SC finds a Daniel, James, Stewart M. and a Samuel Leger. The will of a John Leger states heirs of his cousin William went to the west lands? I think he meant TN, GA, Al as I find them there in later census. Perhaps this Stewart M. is the same fellow Moses S. Stewart, Samuel and James stayed in my line after the 1900 census and are found in GA with the name spelled Ledger. Would appreciate any information on this name. I have copies all the census pages with same name and am almost finished doing the 1850 AL census and no luck.
