A book of compiled legal records shows that John Moss, a soldier, sold 200 acres of land that he received as a bounty to William Lewis, who owned neighboring property on Milwee Creek waters of the 23 Mile River in South Carolina. The land was granted to Moss on July 4, 1791 and he sold it on February 2, 1795. The deed was recorded on February 10, 1795. 23 Mile River is also known as 23 Mile Creek.
