Reply to jbmorgan posting for Abram / Abraham BROCK...

Imagine my surprise this morning as I opened the Spartanburg SC message boards. That's where my maternal branch of COOPERs were after leaving NC, and then some going into Roane Co TN, as well as AL, KY, and Arkansas.

The first posting I found was yours for BROCK...and upon looking at your other postings, I also see PULLEN / PULLIN / PULLINGS (also one of my maternal lines that went to Wilkes / Henry / Elbert Co GA and onward to AR)...and I also see Attala, MS ..which is one of the MS couonties where my husband's BROCKS and EVANS were prior to going to East Texas.

BROCK is one of my husband's maternal lines (his grandmother Dana Evelyn BROCK born 1891 in Houston Co TX d 1967 Angelina Co TX. She was born to George Washington BROCK and Elzada Pricella ANDERSON, both born in Angelina Co TX, but their parents were in Mississippi prior to coming in to Angelina Co TX ..and before that, both lines were GA and SC....where by no small coincidence I'm sure...my husband's BROCKs also track back to GA and it seems SC.

Though we are part of a BROCK dna project (FTDNA site)we still have a brick wall that begins with a Henry BROCK b perhaps 1780-1800 timeframe.

Dana Evelyn BROCKs father George Washington BROCK was born 1867 TX to Robert Moses BROCK b about 1827 in GA, d 1912 Angelina Co TX (mar Charitie Ann EVANS b abt 1829 NC) d 1891 Angelina Co TX)...and Robert Moses BROCK was born to our brick wall ancestor, Henry BROCK b in GA or perhaps SC...somewhere in that area of the Appalachian Mountains / Smoky Mountains ...Cherokee Indian Territory that is now NC, SC, GA and TN.

I have found a Henry BROCK married to a Nancy THOMAS that was in Campbell Co GA for a long time, their whole family it seems stayed there into the 1900s. However, they could be a candidate for a firstborn son (?Robert Moses) that left home prior to 1850 and went to Mississippi. It's a stretch with no proof. More BROCKs were in GA and living near that Henry and Nancy. Then I have to consider the DNA matches (on 67 markers) that match us with a Habersham Co GA line as well as one in Sevier Co TN among other matches.

Re my PULLENs, my ggg grandmother Parthenia PULLIN was born about 1805 in GA she stated. She mar Dec 1823 Wilkes Co GA to Michael L. (?Latham) ANDREWS (see 1850 census Lincoln Co GA) and along with the family shown on the 1850 census..... including the overseer George HOUSE who mad married 1851 GA to their daughter Parthenia ANDREWS b abt 1835 Wilkes Co GA...and a daughter Julia who had mar a cousin James PULLEN..they all went in 1856 to eastern Arkansas.

Some of the PULLENs from the family line had gone earlier to Tennessee, settling in Maury County and I am in contact with them. My ANDREWS went to St Francis / Monroe Co AR and though I know there are PULLENs / PULLINs in AR and some that went to TX, I do not have the exact connection. Also I lose 2 children Henry and James that were born to Julia who had mar James PULLEN. He died and she remarried William MUNS / MUNN / MUNNS, and 2 sisters married MUNNS brothers. Mary Catherine ANDREWS mar Andrew Jackson MUNNS and youngest sister Henrietta Elizabeth mar Samuel Riley MUNNS.
In Arkansas, the ANDREWS family appear on the 1860 census as ADAMS, but in Civil War records sons appear both as ANDREWS and ANDERS ...but the old family bible I have that belonged to my gg grandparents Parthenia ANDREWS, HOUSE, HOLMAN, COOPER and her spouse DIllard L. COOPER (b 1838 Spartanburg, Thickety SC) the family is shown as ANDERS. It is ANDERS that descendants in Little Rock AR now use and ANDERS that my great grandmother Clara COOPER and her daughter Audrey McLAIN and brothers knew as the maiden name of Parthenia ANDREWS b abt 1835 WIlkes Co GA.

Re EVANS family (my husband's lines)...if you run into any EVANS (IVINS, EVENS, etc) among your BROCKs in SC, or ANDERSONs, SCOTTs, DAVIS, for instance, please let me know.

In my ANDREWS / ANDERS line some allied names were PULLIN (Pullen, etc), HOUSE, GILL, WILLIS ..and in the branch that went to Maury County, SCOTT and RICHARDSON are allied among other surnames.

In Arkansas my combined maternal lines mingled with my McLAINs (McClain, McLean, etc)perhaps before my great grandmother Clara COOPER born 1878 Monroe Co AR married in 1898 as 2nd wife of William David McLAIN b 1859 Lawrence Co AR to John Henry McLAIN b abt 1835 Weakley Co TN, to Charles McLAIN b abt 1805-07 IL or TN to Charles McCLAIN b abt 1780-85 NC (maybe in territory that in 1796 became state of Tennessee).

I know I have rambled off the BROCKs, but your posting history shows a variety of possibilities for a kinship to either me and/or my husband. His paternal line is STANALAND, but his maternal line is BROOKSHIRE, BROCK, BRAZEAL, ANDERSON, EVANS, SCOTT, WATERS, HILL, WRIGHT, MASSINGILL, GANN...lines that moved out of MD / VA through the Carolinas and through TN or the Deep South to East Texas...very typical southern migratory pattern, so no big surprise there.

Hope we can discuss our families some more and see if we can find any possible connections.
