I am quoting a letter I received from Mrs. Annie Mae Buice Rector, her father was a grandson of James Edward Buice. This information was furnished to her by her father.
'Our great-grandfather, James Edward Buice, was born in Italy according to our information. He was sent to Eton College in England and to Kings College in Cambridge (about 40 miles from London)(Evidently his people were very wealthy)
While in Eton he met Dexter Converse, originally from Italy, but now living in Boston. Later they both went to Cambridge and his brother joined them; his brother majoring in literature and fine arts. He graduated, became a professor and later founded Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C.
James Edward Buice was advised by Dexter Converse to come to America, because there was a need for textile mills.
