None of this is true...at least not the info about James Edward Buice being in business with Dexter Converse...and owning any Mills. This all originated by another ancestor who wanted very badly for this family to be prominent and wealthy...but they weren't. This got passed thru the family for years, but if you go thru the old census records as I did...and go to the local libraries in the areas they lived, you will not find any one with the name BUICE owning anything; these people farmed and worked as common laborers in cotton mills all their lives. My late Mother told stories of how they had to grow all their food or they would not have had anything to eat. They never owned their houses...always rented farms. They were hard-working,..but NOT people of means ! Also...they were NOT from Italy. The BUICE family (found the name spelled 17 different ways in SC)...they came from Brielle, Holland (the Netherlands). They were olive-complexioned...so when they cam into America and were not REAL white in color, they were called "Black Dutch" in many instances...but were actually what would later and now, be "Dutch/ Caucasians." You can go to www.buicefamilyreunion.com and read all the details of this family.
