In case anyone is still researching Jemima. She was the daughter of Joseph and Rachel Cohen. (spelled Cowen/Cowin on the 1790 and 1800 census for Union, SC.) At Union County Courthouse, we found an 1802 document where Rachel was selling Joseph's land, 125 acres, and had her children sign dower rights, Mima and Thomas. Thomas stayed in Union. Jemima is on the 1840 census, living next door to her son, Lawrence. He moved to Pickens County, Alabama. Jemima died there a few years later. Thomas Jefferson Cohen, another son, also lived in Pickens County, Alabama. Apparently her children were born out of wedlock.
