Hello...
I can track Silas W. Goree in census back to 1860, where I find him with his family as a 14 year old boy, with his mother apparently widowed...
1860 Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina
Clary Goree age 50
Thomas Goree age 27
Hezekiah Goree age 22
Leana A. Goree age 20
Silas Goree age 14
Jane K. Goree age 8/12 months...
with Mary Pratt age 54....
Now later I can find Silas and Thomas Goree have moved to Marshall County, Alabama and finally Silas W. Goree, married to Martha M. (maiden name still unknown...) lived in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama.
The last record I can find for Martha being the 1910 census in Austinville, Morgan County, Alabama living with Nancy & Eugene Taylor, her daughter and son-in-law...Martha M. who married Silas W. Goree is also recorded as having been born in South Carolina...but no parents were listed on either death record, nor at the cemetery level. I suspect that they were married in South Carolina...as no record of their marriage has yet been discovered in Alabama.
Now not being able to travel to South Carolina to do my best in the local records with the hands on research I have come to enjoy so much, I find myself in need of some help...
Did any of this make sense to anyone else out there?
I reallly want to know who Silas W. Goree's parents and grandparents were...as far back as the trail could go...but need someone's help.
I would be so wonderful to know...
