There appears to be 2 McKinney cemeteries in McCormick County. I haven't been to either one. I live in Oconee County -- in the NW corner of SC.

In a couple of weeks, we'll be following the posted instructions and seeing if we can actually view the cemeteries using Google's Aerial/Satelite View. If there are only field stones below a big Oak tree, I doubt that's possible. The other cemetery might be seen.

It's VERY POSSIBLE possible that we have actually found your cemetery, but we are calling it simply as "UNKNOWN NAME" cemetery. These over 25 that fall into this category.

Do these GPS pointers mean that you have seen the cemetary? I did travel there in 2010 and could not locate it. I was getting help from Bob Edmonds on the phone. The place that I was at had recently had heavy machinery and I assumed it was destroyed.

Thanks

Normally, if survey books are available, the book's Surname Indexes will be available on-line for searching. This will give you the ability to determine what tombstone inscriptions each book contains.

1. Project’s MAP VIEW links will provide you with printable cemetery finding Road Maps.

2. Projects’ AERIAL VIEW links (NEW) will provide you with an overhead satellite view of the cemetery.

3. Google’s STREET VIEW will provide you with a view of the cemetery, as if you were standing on a nearby main road, and looking towards the cemetery.

This is a non-copyrighted project and you can reuse any of the on-line info as you see fit.

CAN YOU BE OF ANY HELP..?

I am trying to determine the parents of Julia Ann Martin, b.10 Apr 1823, d. 05 Apr 1905, married John Deason 1842. Both are buried in the Deason Family Cemetery near McCormick. I am stumped about who her parents could be, but am leaning toward Phares Martin and Susan Turner as likely candidates. I have nothing to support this, other than the time period fits the best. If anyone can help, I sure would appreciate it. These are my third great grandparents. Thanks, Burl Maurer

Hello Ashley, it seems that we are cousins (I think third) it is somewhat confusing but l don’t attend the family reunions no longer, I’m not a Brown…but all the family members at the reunion were all nice to me and my two-sons and I’m thankful about that...BUT we are truly related by blood…

Here is my tree I will try to match it up with yours…

Gertie (which she lives in Long Island—Uniondale) down the block from my sister Cheryl (not sure if Gertie moved)

Anyway, my Aunt Edna lives in Queens—my father sister
My father past away 1 month before Aunt Bertha did in 1988
Aunt Bertha passed away in Jan 1989. I really don’t like the Holiday’s too much because I was the one that answered the phone that morning, when the hospital called in December and was told that he passed.
Plus, I was and still am my father's number one fan!!!

Andre is my Great-Great-Great Grandfather (which my father named me after)
Peter Jr is my Great-Great Grandfather
Neal (Cornelius) is my Great Grandfather
Victoria is my Grandmother (which I love dearly)
Aunt Edna (my father sister, which I love dearly as well)—She is going to kill me, because I haven’t called her in over a year
Gertie (my first cousin)
Kim—(your mother) would be my second cousin on my father-side
And then you (Ashley)---my third cousin
So hello cousin!!!!

Oh, my father name is Columbus and the family called him Lumpy (his nickname)
I have no idea how they got Lumpy from Columbus. But when he moved to New York with his brother and cousins, he changed his name to Chris.
I think the brother was Otis (he passed away in the early 2000’s in Queens, NY)
My dates maybe wrong…but the names are corrects.
You can ask your Grandmother (my auntie) Aunt Edna.

All the best… Andrea

Hi here it is in 2012 and I'm just finding this. My name is Ashley, I am Andre Guillebeau(x)'s 5 times great-grand-daughter, my family no longer attends the reunions because the mixing of the Brown's family tree outside of Mary's immediate children and heirs, (re: the inclusion of the Brown family being Mr. Browns lineage and family lines). Never the less I googled Guillebeau and found this forum. John Callahan was uncle to my grandmother Gertadine Meacham (called Gertie) and her mother, his sister Edna Hazel, formally Johnson(Maiden), her mother was Victoria Guillebeau and Victoria's father was Neal Guillebeau, son of Peter Guillebeau Jr. I know confusing so think of it like this

Andre (Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather)
Peter Jr. (Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather)
Neal (Great-Great-Great Grandfather)
Victoria(Great-Great Grandmother)
Edna (Great Grandgrandmother/ still living)
Gertadine (Known as Gertie/Greta)(Grandmother)
Kim (mother)
Ashley (me)
Anyhow, J. Willie Jennings [John William Jennings] appears seated on the left. The Newby boys listed on the back are Pat, Gill, and Jim Newby. I do not know who is which. If you do, please reply.

Here is a picture of a McCormick Co. Confederate Veterans Reunion from 1920. Most of these men would have enlisted in Abbeville, SC or Edgefield, SC - two of the most common assignments were Hampton's Legion and the 7th SC Vol. Infantry (Longstreet's Corp.). I am hoping that this picture helps someone out. I can recognize no one in it, though my ancestor, John P. Price, would've been alive to be present for the picture (though I cannot tell if he is actually in it).

David Jennings

I just purchased the McCormick County book but it was printed in 1987. Albert Horace Reynolds is listed in the Greenville County Library's obituary index for the Greenville News. You can request a copy from the library for a $5 fee. I would say I could pick it up for you, but it may be a while before I make it back there. Good luck!

Can someone help me with clearer directions for someone not from the area?

McKinney Cemetery, McCormick County, South Carolina, USA

location: Go north from McCormick on highway 10 & 28. Turn
left at first road past railroad. Follow this road past Bob
Edmonds' photo studio until you reach fork at end of paved road.
Turn sharp left at fork onto unpaved road. Follow this dirt road
to fork. Cemetery is located in this fork beneath a big oak tree.
Hi
No problem here's a bit of info for you. I have Guillebeau's on the Rouse side of my family as well as the Brown's side. I have seen the name Queen somewhere, I will have to check. I Think it may have been on the Rouse side. Maybe check the Rouse' out my family on that side were Free Negro's and they hooked up with Guillibeau's too, but alot of slaves took the name Guillebeau because the were owned by the Guillibeaus.

If you would like I will get you info on the Guillebeau reunion of 2010, it will b held in Pittsburgh.

The Guillebeau reunion

Dear Mr Lee,
I too have black Guillebeaux in my family that are also from Bordeaux, Abbeville Co., SC. That would be Marion Guillebeaux, I don't know if he is related to your family or not, online they have his parents as William and Queen, but I haven't been able to verify this yet. While trying to verify this information I came across the death certificate of Mary Guillebeaux Brown from familysearch.org record search This might be where the misconceptions people are having are coming from. On it they have her father as being Peter Guillebeaux born in Bordeaux, France and mother Eliza Guillebeaux born in Willington, SC. Although through the search engine it comes up as Mary Guillebeaux Broson it is obvious on the record itself it is Brown. The informant is Emily Morange. Hope this clears up any misunderstandings you might be having with others just trying to find their family. Alice Fluegge

Hello,

My name is T.Lee, I know this email may not make it to whom ever posted this but just incase it does, here goes.

There is alot of mis-information floating around on the internert regarding The Black Guillebeau's, from Abbeville in South Carolina.

Pierre Guillebeau Was Not From France and He was Not Mary's Father. Mary's Father was Pierre's Son Peter L. Guillibeau. Mary's mother was a slave named Eliza.

Eventually a slave named Eliza was given To Peter L. by his father Pierre in his will. We can only assume that it was Mary's Mother.

The Guillebeau Family Member from France was Pierre's Father named Andre.

Mary Guillibeau.
Mary Guillebeau was my Gr-Gr-Grandmother. She married Joesph Brown. Together they Produced 10 children: Zanie, Andrew, James, Mancy, Alice, Eliza, Louis, Emily, Janie, And Mamie. Eliza Was my Great Grandmother.

Eliza Brown married Lace Rouse They had 13 children together: John, Arthur, Andrew, Betty Lou, Joe, Brady, Claire, James, Julia, Jessy, Lace, Mamie, And Pearl Lee.

If your Great, Great-Great, or 3 Great Grandmother or Grand Mother or Father's name does not appear on this list then you are not a Direct member of the Guillibeau-Brown Family if it does appear then you are. If you are a family member then please fell free to contact me.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Hello, I notice that it's been a long time since you left a link about the family ancestry stuff but I've been trying to trace back my fathers and as far as I've gotten is Walter E. Delashaw and was interested in finding out any information you may have on the family tree of Delashaws. It seems as though there have been a lot of spelling changes over time and there are a lot of discrapincies in the lineage above Walter E. but everything seems to tie into a Delachaux arriving in South Carolina. My name's Clayton Deleshaw. Thanks

Do you have an approximate birthdate for your Uncle' Peter and Lonnie. This may enable me to find them quicker for you. I have Ancestry and will look for you.

Quattlebaum Family Cemetery location?

I'm trying to find the locations of the Quattlebaum Family Cemetery.

• The Quattlebaum Cemetery is supposed to be on HWY 67 right inside the McCormick County line. It's small, with less than 20 burials.

If anyone knows of this cemetery and has a address or a nearby intersection that would stand as a marker I'd love to hear from you. I'm planning a trip to the area in march to do genealogy research and have many ancestors in these cemeteries.

My Searles family lived in the McCormick area. It took a longtime to find them because McCormick was created from 3 different Counties, Abbeville, Edgefield and Greenwood. I finally found them on the early Censuses in Edgefield. See my website to see if any of my Searles link with yours. http://alicefluegge.com/alice_family.html the Searles family tree is listed on page 24 of the Fuller Link.
David: I live about an hour 1/2 away from this area. I am not sure of what newspapers were available in 1900. McCormick has a paper & I think maybe the Abbeville "Press & Banner" paper MIGht have some McCormick news. Now days the Greenville paper (close to where I live) carries McCormick & Abbeville obits but I don't know about 1900. The Greenwood paper also might can help you.
