I can help you with some of Hannah's background. Her mother's name was Caroline Johnson Mayers Blackman. On the 1850 census, she was listed with her mother, Caroline and uncle Lewis Johnson and living with John Coleman. On that census, they listed her with the last name of Coleman, but that is wrong. Her mother, Caroline lived with John Coleman from 1849 thru 1853 and was listed as a nurse and housekeeper, making $100 a year. Her occupation came from some court records in an estate suit. John Coleman's will stated that he left property to Caroline, Hannah, and Edward MAIRS. There are several different spellings for Mayers. Mears, Meares, etc. Caroline had a son when she was about 15 years old, named Dullas, or Dallas Johnson. Then her next child was listed as a Mayers. (I can't find any info on the Mayers man that she married.) She had children named, J. Dallas Johnson (probably before she was married), then Hannah born 1848/49, Edward Mears born Jan. 2, 1853, Esther Mears 1853/54, Mary Florence Mears 1855/56, George Elmore Mears, 1857, Emeliza Mears 1862/63 (She was listed as Elizabeth on one of the censuses)and John Meares 1867/68. Caroline married John (Jack) Blackman late in life and several of her children took on the Blackman name. Your Hannah was named for Caroline's mother, who was Hannah Johnson. If you would like to have a look at my family tree, send me your email and I will send you an invitation to view it. Good luck in your search! Brenda Player 843-386-2401
