My G.Great Grandfather was Lewis L. Furtick, migrated from Lexington Co to Florida sometime before 1850 besides other children,he had three boys.Henry Holt Fertic,George Washington Fertic, and John Allen Fertic.Henry Holt Fertic was my G.Grandfather.One of his sons was named George Washington Fertic also,he was my Grandfather born 14 Feb.1885 in Polk Co.Florida.It is said that L.L.Furtick's wife was Elizabeth (mabe Clements).
she was the mother of the boys.I would like any information
that may help me find info further back regarding L.L.Furtick and his family from the Lexington area.It seems like the names change their spelling with each census i run across and is so confusing.

The name Lewis Lafayette Furtick is not in my database, but I have a history of the Furticks. The original immigrant was John George Ferdig (abt 1735-abt 1785)son George Furtick (abt 1765-1818). George had 10 children, and these children had several children each.

Would you have information on an Elisha Malachi Williams(b. 1822) who married Margaret Furtick ( 1819 - 1891)? Their children were possibly Dave, Elisha, Margaret, Mary, James Rufus(my gggrandfather), Matt or Madison and Alexander. They were listed in the Lexington County 1870 Census. James Rufus married Rachel Talulah Goodwin, daughter of Olivia(b. 1826) and Joseph J. Goodwin (b. abt 1815).Her siblings were Mary E. and Jack E. as listed on the Lexington County 1870 census. I am also a descendant of David W. Jumper if you have information on that line that we could share.

I forgot to list Rachel in the list of children for Joseph and Olivia Goodwin. Sorry for the omission. Elisha was the son of James Williams (1790-1866). Elisha was the Executor of his Estate(on file at Dept Archives). James grew up in the Rocky Grove area (near Salley SC) and in 1833 moved to the Sandy Run area. He helped establish Sardis Baptist Church. He was the son of Joseph Williams (1764-1806). Joseph was born in NC and moved to SC around 1773. He served 2 terms in SC General Assembly representing Lexington County around 1800. Another son, John D. Williams (1797-1860) served as Sheriff of Orangeburg County. I am currently trying to determine if William Williams, born in the 1790's and whose family also moved to Swansea from the Salley SC area is a brother, and also if Elias Williams (b. 1794) is a brother. Elias helped establish Sandy Run Baptist near Gaston and was the father of Oliva A E Williams( wife of Joseph Goodwin).

Thank you for the information. I would like to correspond with you regarding the ancestors of Elisha Malachi Williams. I have a question about the children of Joseph and Olivia Goodwin. Does your list mean you don't have Rachel Talulah as one of their daughters? I found her on the 1870 census as a child and in the 1900 census, Olivia was living with the James Rufus Williams family. Did you find the Goodwin family in the 1860 census records?
I have corresponded with Sherman Jumper about the Jumper ancestry but always look for information from other sources just in case. Thanks so much and I'll be in touch soon.

Dennis, This posting is rather old and I hope this reaches you.

My GGGGrandparents were Lemuel M. Parker and Rachel S. Williams. I think that James and Catherine Williams were her parents but I don't have any proof. Lem and Rachel were both born in SC and sometime before 1850 they moved to Cobb Co. Georgia and into Paulding Co by 1860. I have located James and Catherine (I think is the right one) living in Paulding County in 1860 with 3 daughters residing with them. Elizabeth 36; Harriett 26; Louisa 23.

Living next door to Lem and Rachel are Malachi and Margaret with David, Elisha, Henry, Mary, Rufus, Madison, & Joseph. Which leads me to believe that this was probably her brother. What, if any, information do you have on James and Catherine's children?

Someone also mentioned the name Jumper in another query. Where do they fit in to the Williams Family? The reason I ask is because there are Jumpers living next to James and Catherine. Is Marselah their daughter, too maybe?

By the 1870 census Catherine and Harriett are living next to Lem and Rachel.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks !
