Hey CUZ!

Girl, I just woke up and saw your message. How you're doin'? How's Dad and Grandma? Did you call them yet? I can't wait to find out so much about our family!

I also have a son (27 y.o.) and his name is Parris Wallace, my heart. No, I don't have Facebook-yet; maybe I'll consider joining it someday.

I'm wondering if your Father Hueston and Grandma Willie Mae know of or remember my Father or his Father-Grandpa Eugene Foreman.

I'm gonna share a bit of history about Grandpa Eugene Foreman, at least from what I've been told.

My Father's name was James Foreman but everybody called him Bubba. His Father was Eugene, Alice's brother.

Grandpa Eugene married Louise Brown and besides my Father they had two other children: Aunt Dot (Dorothy Mae Foreman) and Aunt Katherine Foreman.

Grandpa Eugene and Grandma Louise separated when my Father was a boy. Grandpa Eugene's brother Bennie Foreman and his wife Maggie raised my Father and Aunt Dot until my Father was about 8 y.o. Then he went to live with Grandma Louise's parents: My Great-Grandpa Eugene Brown (I know, all these Eugenes LOL), and Great-Grandma Katie Brown (Nee: Hunter). Aunt Katherine was raised by another relative (My Mom told me but I can't remember who).

After Grandpa Eugene and Grandma Louise divorced, Grandpa Eugene married Rogenia Kelly (also from Camden, SC) and had: Jeanie Foreman (A girl), Booster Foreman(I think his real name is Benjamin), and Issac Foreman.

Grandpa Eugene Foreman and Rogenia lived in Baltimore, MD. Grandpa Eugene died there in 1976.

Grandma Louise married a white man who was a sailor and lived in Buffalo, NY.

Now, here's where the rift comes in:

Grandma Louise passed for white. She and my Father did not see eye to eye and did not speak to each other for over 30 years. Then they made amends and she came to stay with us for one year when I was a little girl. I remember her very well. She looked like a white woman. My Father resented her for leaving him when he was a child and for passing for white. It was a big thing in the family back then, and maybe your Father and Grandma heard the story. Grandma Louise died in 1996 in Buffalo, NY. She had only one sibling, a sister named Charlotte Brown and she married Lawrence White. She died childless in 1990.

Well, that's the gist of some of my family history your Father and Grandma might know about. I've heard that story for most of my childhood and right into my adulthood.

That's why I never really knew much about my Father's side because there was so much tension, animosity, and distance. Hardly anyone connected with each other. My Mother side - Girl, EVERYBODY connects with a family reunion every two years, they call one another. I know all my aunts and uncles, cousins, great-aunts and great uncles. I can go way back to my fourth Grandparents on my Mother's side. But my Father's side - it was always a mystery until I connected with Ancestry.com. Then I found you.

I also found Richard Foreman's descendants - Alice's other brother. Richard Foreman had married Priscilla Lewis (Did Willie Lewis have a sister named Priscilla? If so, she's the one who married Richard Foreman). Richard's and Priscilla's daughter married into the Salmond family.

Our cousin is Mike Salmond. You can find his family information here on Ancestry.com. He has a lot of pictures about his family but he doesn't have one of Richard Foreman, his great-grandfather. Mike lives in Baltimore. Most of our Foreman family live in Baltimore.

My Father didn't even speak to Grandpa Eugene for years! My Father also had a mean streak and a drinking problem which led to his death in 1989.

So, there was a lot of missing pieces. I didn't know a thing about my Father's sisters except Aunt Dot (And the only reason I remember her well is because she was the first woman I EVER saw who had a full mustache! LOL! She was going through "The Change" as they called it then). She was very, very nice though. She died in 1986 from Diabetes.

Katherine Foreman died in 1965 in New Jersey (Hackensack). The story is her ex-husband (Unknown) hit her in the head and killed her. That is a story I can't verify but there is a Social Security Death Record that says she died in 1965 in Hackensack.

Girl, sorry I wrote so much! I gotta hit the road by 4:50 AM. Here's my home number:

(212) 722-1644

I get off from work at 2:35 PM and I get home by 4:00, depending on traffic. Please call me whenever you can. Can't wait to "talk" with you!

My personal email is pauletteforman@gmail.com.

Have a great day, and talk to you soon.

Love, your Cuz,
Paulette
OMG! I can't believe this! Hello, Cuz! (LOL)! It's so nice meeting you! Finally, I found someone I'm related to! I saw your profile and viewed the photos! I tried to look at the Lewis/Foreman tree but I have to pay for it. Unfortunately, I forgot to renew my subscription last month so I'm only allowed to view the photos but not the trees. I will renew it Friday so I can be able to see it.

WOW! You have a beautiful family! I can see we are kin just by looking at some of the pictures. Your Grandmother Willie Mae - Who did she marry? Was it a Pate? Scott? Brown?

BTW, we are also kin to the Browns. (Eugene and Kate (Nee: Hunter) Brown are my maternal Great-Grandparents. Ring a bell?

I wish I had photos to share of our Great-Grandmother Alice and her Father Henry. The only photo I have is of Henry's father-in-law (his wife, Mary J. Clyburn's Father). Do you have any photos of your Grandma Willie Mae?

Cheresse, in my excitement, I failed to realize you did mention Alice as your Great-Grandmother, the daughter of Henry Foreman. That's right, he did have a daughter named Alice. Was her husband named Willie Lewis? And did they live in Newark, New Jersey? And did they have a daughter named Izetta Lewis? Is she your Grandmother?

OMG! YES! Cheresse, we are definitely cousins! I am so happy we found one another! I've been searching for anyone connected with the Foreman Family for so long at Ancestry.com hoping to connect with my kin. And here you are! Praise God!

Here is a brief list of our Foreman Family:

Alice was actually Henry Foreman's Mother. She was married to Murphy Foreman - Henry's Father. Here's the breakdown:

Mary Foreman (1823) - Our Fifth Grandmother. She was born in NC in slavery and died in SC as a free woman. She was a widow by 1880 and had own property in Camden, SC.
Her son:
Murphy Foreman (1848) married Alice People (1850). Their children:
Elias
Henry (My Great-Grandfather)
Mary
Elijah
Murphy Jr.

Henry (1874-1947) married Mary J. Clyburn (1880). Their children:
Benjamin
David
Richard
Eugene (My Grandfather)
Queen
Alice
Annie Bell
Lollee
Maggie
Isaiah

Eugene (1911-1976) married Louise Brown (1911-1996). They are my Grandparents. Their son James Forman (1933-1989) was my Father.

As I mentioned, Henry was my Great-Grandfather and his son, Eugene is my Grandfather. Which one of Henry's sons are you connected with?

Missouri Canzadi Lilly was married to Southward Segars on 25 November 1897 in Lincoln County, Mississippi. She was born 11 January 1876 in Mississippi and died 24 December 1930 in Franklin Parrish, LA. She was the daughter of James M. and Mary J. Lilly. Missouri is buried at Oakley Cemetery, Gilbert, Franklin Parrish, LA with her husband, Southward Segars. This Southward Segars was born 18 August 1860 and died 5 February 1949. Southward was the son of Hiram Powell Segars and his wife Anna Jane. Hiram Powell Segars was a son of Southward and Clarkie Segars.

Missouri may be of American Indian descent, according to Joy Eley, researcher. Missouri was counted twice on the census in 1900, once in her father's home and as the wife of Southward Segars, both in Lincoln County, Mississippi. The birth months and years are the same on both entries, but there is a descrepancy in the birthplace, one has Mississippi, the other Louisiana.

I don't recall ever hearing anything about Indian blood in the Segars line, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Judy

I have a uncle and cousins here in the DC-MD-VA area with the last name McKnight from Lee County, S.C. My aunt Carolyn married a McKnight prior to her death at a very young age and her children (Harold, Rushie, and two other siblings) were raised by their father's mother (grandmother) in Lee County until of adult age, where they then returned to the Washington Metropolitan area. They are still connected with the family in that direction. We also have surnames, i.e. McDonald, Simmons, and Davis. I will be happy to inquire of them if any of the information that you provided relates in their direction. If there is information to past your way, I will gladly do so.

I haven't been able to go beyond her as of yet. Clara is my great grand mother, the mother of my moms mother, whose name was Daisy Mae McDonald (her marriage name was Lucky). My name is Lorenzo, heres my email if you happen to find anything further, or just want to communicate: Cahsene7@Yahoo.com.
I can't tell you anything about Clara but I'm also looking for relatives with the last name McDonald, my grandfather Thomas McDonald. He was born around 1886 in South Carolina. My mother told me he was from Elliott. I think that's fairly close to Sumter. Unfortunately, he didn't tell anyone his parents names and I don't know if he had any siblings. He left South Carolina for Detroit Michigan probably in the early 1900s. I found him in the 1920 census in Michigan, married to my grandmother but I can't Nanything before that especially in South Carolina with out another relative to connect him to. He named his first born daughter Christena. Not sure if he was naming her after a loved one in South Carolina. This is very fragmented information but if there are McDonalds in Lee county that may have a possible lead, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Lee;

I'm taking a shot here. I am related to many Jacksons in Bishopville, SC on my Mother's side. My Great-Great Aunt Winnie McCaskill married a John Jackson in Bishopville. SC in the late 1800s. They had two sons: John Jr. and David, and a daughter Lita. I'm not sure if they had any more children.

I'm not certain if there is a connection between your Jackson and mine. But there is a strong likelihood we could be related. The Jacksons are a big family in Bethune, Bishopville, Lucknow, and Darlington Sc. It's a possibility Salis and John were brothers. It would be nice to know we are related. If so, hello Cousin :-)!

I am looking for information on Frank Lee, he married Nancy possibly Dixon or Lee we're not sure. They had a daugter Victoria Sue (not necessarily in that order) born 1904, son James born 1906 and Eugene born 1910. I have found where Frank's first name is possibly James. Nancy's parents may have been Jim Dixon and Victoria Unknown. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Victoria Sue married Benjamin Lett.
Thanks
Lynne

Mary Susan Josey (born Oct 15, 1831, in Sumter, SC area, died, and buried April 20, 1885, in Chester County, SC). She is said to have married William Tillman Gregory (born 1830 in Union County, SC, son of Edward M. Gregory and died possibly 1888, place of death and burial at this time unknown...)
Mary Susan Josey was daughter of William Willis Jossey of Sumter, SC area 1796-1866 and Sarah Boykin (born July 27, 1803 in Kershaw., SC and died June 16, 1886 In Lee, South Carolina... Sarah Boykin's parents were Drury, Sr and Sarah Boykin...
***Can any fellow researchers help me firmly establish that Mary Susan Josey was married to William Tillman Gregory of Union County, SC in 1850? I know William Tillman’s wife name was indeed Susan, and also all their children, but need proof of their marriage...and I know Susan Gregory's burial place.... Is there proof of their marriage, in record or implied?
*** Does anyone have proof of where/when William Tillman Gregory died and is buried.
*** and my final query, did William Willis Josey leave a will or did his wife Sarah Boykin Josey leave a will or estate?
He served in the Revolution and died in 1843.

How about Jonathan Newman who ran Newman's ferry on Lynches River? Supposedly he served with the Swamp Fox. Possibly died just prior to 1824.

I have a 1821 Sumter County map which shows in in what is now Lee County. (attached) I wish I knew who his wife and children were. I am trying to see if he might be Samuel Newman's father, my many times G-grandfather. I am going to the SC archives in a couple of weeks to view some of his land grants.
Email me at vbrowan@bellsouth.net and I will forward what I find.

Looking for information on Jacob (1 Jan est.1855- 27 May 1937)& Lucy Scott-Richardson (22 Aug. est. 1858- 23 Sept. 1946), who migrated from Stokes Bridge, Darlington, S.C to Bishopville, Lee, S.C. between 1910-1920. Lucy Scott's father was Edward/Edwin Scott whose father came from Hickory, N.C. Their children's names were Herman, Rosana, John, Vivian Vern, Murry, Carson, William, and Alfonzia. John was married to Juanita H. and they resided in Washington, D.C. When he died he was buried by Lewis & Nelson in Bishopville, S.C as were his parents (Jacob & Lucy). Vivian Vern married Arrie Miller and had one child named Vivian in the 1920's. Arrie Miller passed away shortly thereafter and he was remarried to Odessa by the 1930's.
