Does anyone know where Jonathan Newman's
Ferry
across Lynches River would have been located in the early 1800's? Do you know where his property was? Who his wife was? Who his parents were?

His ferry was about 3 miles south of Bishopville. It later became
Fields
Bridge
which was abandoned in the 1940's. There is still a dirt road leading to it.
There are deeds and plats for the
Newman
land in the
Sumter County
Court
House

Thanks for your reply. I had seen
Fields
Bridge
Road on the map and wondered if that was the location. Any information on parents, wife, background of Jonathan
Newman

there is a book on the
Newman
family in the Hartsville (SC) Genealogical Research Library published by a family member. I believe the family moved to
Alabama
or
Mississippi
in the early 1800's.
Here is the website:

I have a 1821
Sumter County
map which shows in in what is now
Lee County
. (attached) I wish I knew who his wife and children were. I am trying to see if he might be Samuel Newman's father, my many times G-grandfather. I am going to the SC archives in a couple of weeks to view some of his land grants.
Email me at
vbrowan@bellsouth.net
and I will forward what I find.
