YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Charles Warren Gibson, 86, passed away Sunday at Park Vista.
Mr. Gibson was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Conway, S.C., the son of Joseph Gibson and Bessie Bowens.
Charles worked at LTV Steel for 38 years as a Motor Inspector and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1949. Mr. Gibson was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, where he once served as Chairman of Trustee Board, Administrative Council, Chairman of Usher Board and Methodist Men.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Spirit of Ohio Lodge 311 A.F. & A.M., National District Deputy, Past Master 20 years, Associate Working Patron for St. Mary’s Chapter 8 OES, NAACP and President of SOAR.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, the former Mary Henderson, whom he married July 4, 1963; one daughter, Christy (Lamar) Cousin of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Rose Rupert of Dallas and Viola Rogers and Anna Evans, both of Campbell, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Ashlee, Isaiah and Camille Cousin, all of Charlotte.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Lee Norman, Mary Louise Horton and Josphine “Tina” Gibson; and two brothers, Robert and Marion Gibson.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at noon at the Centenary United Methodist Church.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the church.
