Go to your local library and ask if they do intralibrary loans. I know (because I have done it) that the South Carolina archives and library in Columbia SC have copies that they loan out.

Could you please check the LEWIS book you have and see if you have a Rachel LEWIS (d.Feb.1807) who married John McQUEEN (ca.1752-ca.1790) in Horry Dist. S.C. Rachel LEWIS' mother's name was reportedly WOLF.Thank you!

I apologize for being so long in answering this query but I didn't even know it was asked. I hope you'll forgive me.

I've checked the "William Lewis of Horry County, South Carolina" book in connection with your Rachel Lewis who married John McQueen but have found no one by either name.

Again I apologize for not getting back to you earlier.

The book titled "William Lewis of Horry County, South Carolina" was written by Mary Lewis Stevenson and copywrighted 1960 by Charlotte Stevenson. It was printed by The R. L. Bryan Company of Columbia, S. C. However, it is my understanding that, unless they've begun reprinting it, it is now out of print entirely.

I would be glad to do a lookup for you if you wish, though. Just let me know.

Could you check and see if there is an Ethel Lewis mentioned. I went on J.D. Lewis's site and founs 1 but he was under Sam Lewis, (which this could be right since he was raised by someone other than his real parents. His father is really Henry Lewis and his mother is Susie Mincey, both of Horry County. There are several stories behind who raised him so I'm not sure which is the right one, maybe your book can help me out--here goes;(1 story) It was said that Henry is the father of Ethel and that Henry's wife was a midwife. She went out one night delivered this baby, came home confornted her husband that she knew it was his (never no mention of him admitting that he was), got up early the next morning went out and got mother and child and brought them home with her to live. (2 story) My father has always said that all he knew about him was that he and Susie Mincey were never married and that Henry Lewis was Ethel's dad (his grandfather) and that he had heard that one night he got drunk and fell in a ditch and broke his neck and died. Also that he had 1 brother who caught his wife and best friend together, killed them both and fled the state, remarried and named his first daughter after his first wife.
Ethell was born in 1899, in Horry County, somewhere (I assume) around Aynor or Galivants Ferry. Ethell married Lula Gerrald, had 4 boys,Lula died he remarried Verbie Small and had 1 girl. Can you find any mention of any of these people or of these events in your book?

I've checked on the names you've listed. There is no record of a Susie or Susan Mincy or Minsey, although there are a few Mincy's mentioned. The only Henry Lewis mentioned is the son of James Lewis, (DOD July 21, 1818, living at Allans Bridge, Marion County (now Dillon County). James Lewis married Charity Coleman and was the son of William Lewis. James mentions, in his will dated Oct. 6, 1816 and recorded July 31, 1818, in Marion County Will Book I, Roll 445, page 12, his sons "Henerey" and "Maltre". In addition to Henry and Moultrie, he also had a son named Hymrick.

Other than that information, I can find nothing on a Henry that might be in the range you are probably looking for. I'm not sure this helped but hope it somehow does.

If there is any other way I can help you, please let me know.

Dianne, It is my understanding that there may be a lot of Floyds mentioned in the book. I am not sure of the time period of the book to know which Floyd to ask for. Could you tell us the time period covered?
