I found several trees that say he died in 1864 in the civil war. Searching the civil war records, there are several John Fowlers listed. Three died during the war. Two in 1862 and one in 1865. The one in 1865 was in Co F, 18th Regiment SC Infantry. He died in a POW hospital and is buried in Newport News VA. So my question is was this the John Fowler (b1816) in Greenville, SC or was John Fowler from Greenville in a different unit?
