I need help identifying the parents of a Barton. I looked in the census but could not see this Barton family.
Mildred or Millie born about 1891, and said to have been born in Tygerville. Mildred married a Brown. She had five sisters in the Upstate and identified by their married names: Mrs. C. H. Story, Mrs. W. W. Chapman, Mrs. Dewery Stover, Mrs. L. E. Turner, and Mrs. Roy Brock. Who are the parents? Names of any brothers not known to me. Thanks. Mike

Thanks! I am aware of a Barton book in the Greenville library, but have never found time to go there and check.
Millie and Bill lived and died in Gainesville GA. Seems like they are buried in Greenville with his father. If you or anyone needs to know, I can check my notes.
With all the Bartons in the 1900 census and with my looking fire in the Tygerville area, it would have been a while before I located them across the county at the mill in Piedmont. Thanks again for your help. Mike

Should be "first" in Tygerville, not "fire".

Mike - if you need any more information I have the Barton book at home. Mildred and James W. Brown are buried at Graceland Cemetery with their son Norman. Rev. Rufus Barton is buried at Rose Hill in Piedmont as are Mildred's parents.

Kelly Jane,

More a curosity than need, if Rufus died in 1862, how did he get to Rose Hill? This cemetery began in the late 1880s or early 1890s, best I can recall from visits there. Next visit I will look for Rufus. He was in upper Greenville County in 1860, two years before death.

You may be interested to know in 1860 there are two Joseph Bartons of different ages, perhaps father and son, both married to Lettys of different ages. May be a census mistake regarding the same names for the wives.

Mildred and James William Brown are buried with his father and mother at Graceland, and the plot has other Brown relatives.

Nice to be able to speculate that Mildred met her husband when they both lived in Piedmont.

Mike
