Pierson B. Bates was born abt 1835 in Greenville County, SC.
I cannot ascertain who Pierson Bates' parents were as he is living with 60 year old Thomas Blummet ( may actually be Brummet) in the 1850 Greenville Co., SC (page 330B) census. However, living close by are three Bates brothers who had many children - Joseph ( page 333), John Bates (page 329B), and William Bates (page 328B). Pierson could very well be the son of any of these; however after closely examining all the Bates families in that area in 1840 and 1850 and matching the males up to the corresponding marks in 1840 census, I am estimating that Pierson's parents were most likely Joseph and Mary Bates. I think these Bates brothers were all sons of John and Susannah Bates ? Pierson living in such close proximity to these Bates most surely indicates a descendancy from John and Susannah. I have yet to prove this relationship. Pierson moved to Lawrence County, Alabama and married Sara Gage in 1860. Pierson later moved to Wayne County, Tennessee and died there in 1901. I am hoping someone can help me connect to the Greenville Bates families. Thanks - Jim
