Looking for my
Allens who lived on the GA/SC border in the early 1800s. I inherited an old genealogy that I call the "Allen Document" which I am inserting below in hopes that others are researching the same lines. This document came to me with no author or sources, but I can prove the last 5 generations described. Has anyone else seen this paper? Can anyone provide authorship or proof of anything therein? Allen
The name appears with William the Norman Conqueror in the
invasion of England-but spelled "Alleyn". The family multiplied and
scattered over
England and Scotland and migrated from there to
different parts of the world. The name is now generally spelled
" Allenâ€, but sometimes "Allan" — the "y" having been dropped
from the original name.
When Scottish liberty was lost by English supremacy, many of
her people migrated to North Ireland, and among them, some of the Allen
family. At that time they had embraced the Presbyterian faith as against
the Catholic.
About the year 1754, Samuel Allen and wife, and his brothers, James,
John, and Hugh, migrated from North Ireland to
America, landing in
New Yorkork. They enlisted under General Braddock and took part in the French
and Indian War. Two of the boys, James and John, were killed at Braddock’s
defeat and Hugh was afterwards killed at Pittsburg, Pa. Samuel and family
moved south and settled in
Rowan County,
North Carolina.
Samuel and his four boys enlisted in the American army and served
under Generals Marion, Pickens, and
Sumpter. Two of the boys were killed,
whose names are not now known. The other two,
Reuben and William, survived
the war.
After the war the family settled in Pumpkintown in Greenville
District, S.C. It was there that the family attached themselves to the
Oolinoi Baptist Church, and at which the older ones are now buried.
Reuben had one son, James, who was born in Walton County,
GA. in
1776. He moved to
South Carolina and married Elizabeth Chastain in 1805.
Their children were: John, Tilda, Samuel, Jennie, Nancy, and James.
John married Sarah Goss. Lived and died in
White County,
GA.
Nancy married Thomas Black- lived in
White County,
GA.
Jennie married Irwin Simmons of
Pickens County S.C. She died
at Ducktown Tenn. leaving four children: James, Samuel,
Elijah and Elissha.
Tilda never married -lived to be old and died at the home of
Samuel Allen at Cartecay,
GA.
Samuel D. Allen was born in
Pickens County, S.C. Jan. 10th,
1818. On Feb. 1st, 1842, he was married to Theresa Smith at Cartecay,
GA. -
by Rev. B. B. Quillian. They had seven children: Wilburn, James Robert,
William Andrew, Albert, Dessie, Havana, and Laura. Samuel Allen died at
Cartecay,
GA. March 4th, 1912.
James Allen married Miss Elizabeth Sisk of
White County,
GA.
They lived in
White County,
GA. then in Forsyth County,
GA. and in
Atlanta, where he died. Their children were: Georgia, Mahala, Mary
Hazeltine, Ellie, Sis, and John.
Georgia married a Mr. Saye. They had three children: John,
Tina,and --------.
Mahala married James Dye. They had five children: Thomas,
Cora, John, Mae, and Ruth.
Ellie married Press
Moore. They had four children: Lillie,
Ollie, Levy, and ---------------.
Sis died without marrying.
John married first Miss --------- and had one child, Jettie. His second wife was Miss
Nell----- and they had one child, Herman.
Mary Hazeltine married Philip Lythurgus
Fuller, in Atlanta,
Ga. They had two children, James Marshall, and Nellie Lenora.
James Marshall
Fuller married Miss Laura B. Thornton. They
had five children:
Inez, James Marshall, John
Hamilton, Melvin, and
Mary.
Inez married G. R. Greebie of Chicago, and has one son,
James Marshall -- never married.
John
Hamilton never married.
Mary married ??????? ??? ,has one son.
Nellie Lenora
Fuller married James Edward Daniel. They had
three children: Mary Clyde, Alice Mae, and William
Fuller.
Mary Clyde married Robert Edward Lee. They had one child,
Nellie Frances, who married Gordon Harrell
Hines, and has one daughter,
Mary Ann.
Alice Mae died at eleven years of age.
William
Fuller Daniel married Miss Mamie ---- and lives in Smyrna
