I am a Cameron from Camerontown, a little town established 16 miles outside of Lake City, Florence County, South Carolina just out from the towns of Effingham, Scranton Coward,Kingstree. I would be interested in any information regarding Camerontown Cemetary on 378, when it was founded? My ancestors are buried there from early 1700, who owns this property? Any history would be appreciated. Mid Cameron married to Selema. EL Cameron, Waitus (waiters) Cameron. Harrison Daniels, Lawrence Cameron - Lizzie Cameron. Crossed Over from Lynches Creek, Williamsburg County?

Yes, Camerontown does exist to this day. I was born and raised in Camerontown, 16 miles from Lake City. I am a Cameron. Cameron and Daniels are connected through marriage. There is a long lineage of Camerons and Daniels. There are many living relatives f rom both families. From Lynches River to Williamsburg County which is now Florence county. I great grandfathers on both sides Cameron and Daniels were people to be proud of. I can go back as far as mid 1800s. Camerontown once hailed its own school (Camerontown School - still standing. Much History

Hi - just saw this posting and was wondering if you could send me copies or references supporting the fact that John Langston 1710-1790 was a British POW. the DAR believes he was a Loyalist and they are no longer approving applications from his descendents claiming DAR eligibility. i'd sure like to see something concrete refuting his 'loyalist sympathies'

thanks

Beth
I'm very late in getting back to you.
I have a Jonas Bailey in my family. Going back to Jonas Bailey: In 1790 (?) Jonas Bailey had land grant near Buck Swamp near Little Reedy Creek on the Little Pea Dee River. The family near him was the Waters. In my research I found Jonas Bailey married a Harrelson about 1805. I do not know her name. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Harrelson. They were from Marion County South Carolina. This was near Catfish area. I think they had a son name Jonas, and my ggfa was Jesse Wesley Bailey and his son Gadi Bailey was my gfather. You were talking about Jesse Wesley Bailey and he did married Catherine then Telitha Ayers. Catherine is listed in her father’s will as Kitty Bailey living in Florida (Catherine died in 1860 and buried in this area).
In 1800 there were two Jonas Bailey on the tax roll - Jonas Bailey Sr. and Jonas Bailey Jr. In the 1820 tax roll there is only one Jonas Bailey.

I have also been looking in 1775 in the area of MA. and found several Jonas Bailey fighting in the Battle of Lexington and Concord. There were listed in fighting a few weeks and going home.

I have been on the history for a long time. I’m so glad that I seen your message. Now I can get back on the Bailey side.
How are you connected to the Baileys.
Re: John langston/jesse

I am joining this message board late so please excuse any obe comments but I am interested in several comments that have been made in the past. I am trying to resolve some of the John Langston - Martha Patta Langston - and the resultant bleed over into the McVay and Thomas lines in the Pickens/Oconee Co SC area. i do wish these folks (wives and daughters included) had used a wider variety of names....but it is what it is.

My line goes down thru Hugh McVay III and Martha Patta Langston to their daughter Martha Patsy McVay and her second husband Isaac Thomas and their son Lemuel Thomas.

DAR no longer accepts John Langston b 1710- d 1790 as a patriot. As of 2008 update. The previously accepted service for John Langston is no longer considered valid. The DAR believes it is unreasonable to expect a 70+ year old man to serve as a private in the militia. In addition, the DAR has also found the name John Langston on the Whig Militia Commander’s Enemy List. John Langston was ordered in March 1783 to present himself to the county authorities and defend himself against charges of being a Tory. Although this does not affect the membership standing of any who have already joined on him, the DAR will need future applicants to provide a photocopy of the conclusive evidence that establishes John Langston’s service during the Revolution.

Does anyone on this list have any information about this that either proves or disproves the DAR's argument?

The following may also be relevant: “Loyalists in the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War: Official Roles of Loyalists Recruited from North & South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mis”, Murtie June Clark, Genealogical Publishing Com, 1981
This volume is the first in a three-volume work that contains a vast amount of previously undiscovered data pertaining to the identification of Loyalist soldiers and their dependents. In the preparation of this work the author surveyed the manuscript holdings of various archives, libraries, and private collections, ultimately producing this definitive collection of official rolls which document the service of approximately 15,000 Loyalists. The information available on each person varies according to the nature of the record, of course, but generally (in the case of soldiers), men are listed by rank, with dates of service (enlistment, discharge, etc.), place of service, company and regiment, and remarks pertaining to their status--on active duty, missing, deserted, killed, died, or sick. Volume I, as indicated in the subtitle of the work, pertains mainly to Loyalists recruited in the South for duty in the South (exclusive of Maryland and Virginia Loyalists, who are dealt with in Volume II, as are the Pennsylvania Loyalists who were merged with the Maryland Loyalists toward the end of the war).
Vol 1 contains, pg 13 - in the Muster List of Captain George Dawkins' Company, SC Royalists, Camden, SC, 24 Apr 1781, 61 Days, 25 Apr - 24 Jun 1781, Nr 15 - Private, Langston, John; pg 14 - same Captain 25 Oct 1781 - 24 Dec 1781, line 14, Langstone, John.

If anyone has any proof that this latter ref is incorrect or a different John Langston - I would sure like to see the documentation refuting the DAR rationale.

I think I remember seeing in one of the messages that someone had proof that both John (father) and John (son) served in the War. If there are documents that support this I would also like to see them. I really want to try and disprove DAR's position on this but need real documents to support any argument

Thanks for any help (and I hope I got this all right!!)
I think you as well as most of those that complain were nothing but pansy If you were there nobody wanted you or
you wouldnt have been there. If I were there with you the
least of your worries would have been the staff. What a bunch of whiners Maybe you should have been sent to SC schools for
girls.Damn they do shit to you in boot camp that would have
made you cry and give up.I would put my word up against yours any day and let people decide who is the better your word or MINE I think you went in a whimp and came out a whimp
What would you have done with seven 0r eight counting SAS
Cottages with preteen and teenagers . Maybe they should have
put us around camp fires and we could all sing songs and let
others work for us because the court put us there because we were all angels
My stomach turns when I think they were wasting time and space on people who didnt know how to handle it and people who could handle it DEALT WITH IT.I was there twice ran away six times stole cars broke into staff houses
yes HOUSES more than one pushed staff and stole they re wallet left and went and bought booze and brought it back and sold it
They never did anything to me OH dig a ditch big deal I told them to give me two shovels so I could get through faster cause I had plans What A whiner Some people are
If you cant take the medicine then don,t open your mouth
Don,t get me wrong I did not bully nor did I bother anyone
except staff I was not a big guy but If you bothered anyone who was smaller or weaker Then I would step in. I always chose the guys who were shy for my team.I gave candy and cigs to the under kid and if I heard you took something from a weaker kid I would go up to your ass in the mess hall
or in front of anyone it didnt matter We were all the same and I made sure of that.I hated snitches whimps and someone who thought they could pick on someone because they were smaller or weaker Oh and by the way a whimp was someone who
couldnt deal with the hand he was dealt not just weaker in size or the kid that was afraid to stick up for himself. If
YOU would have stood up against the staff they would have come back and then you would have come back and soon the better man would have won and dont you know it would have been you because you had youth and they would have only been making you tougher and tougher till they relize if they came up against you or some of the weaker boys they would have trouble I would have ask if I could show them my ass in the day room or maybe I just would have shown my ass
Or if some weaker kid was there I would join him and I bet you they would have told us to sit.Wake me up to mop yea put me in the box and Im going back to sleep while you mop the place Hell Im not comming out of the box because I dont feel like working come back tomorrow All of this I say from experence DID IT LIVED IT AND REGRET NONE OF IT. BUT WHEN I LOOK BACK ON IT THEY ( THE STAFF ) NEVER DEALT WITH ME
HELL I EVEN USE TO GO OFF THE GROUNDS AT NIGHT WITH A STAFF MEMBER IN HIS CAR AND GET CIGS HE WOULD NOT LET ME BUY BOOZE BUT I WENT OFF ON MY OWN AND GOT THAT. Yea got caught
but they just took it from me
Everyone goes into Kershaw till they decide what cottage
you go to. I stayed three days and ran away by knocking down the night man. Brought me back two months latter straight to SAS after two days in SAS i was made sergeant
after ninty days I was put in Marion with Mr Vause anyway
the building sargent gave me shit clothing from the clothing room I told Mr Vause someone was calling down the hall from the day room when he went to check I pushed the guy back in the clothing room and closed the door. When Mr
Vause opened the door his sergeant was bleeding over everything. Next day I was made building sergeant.I went back and forth from Marion to SAS and each time I was building sargent the same day I got there. Then I got sent to Hampton when I was sent back the second time but first they took me to Sas the first day saying no use for you to go to Kershaw Then when I got out they put me in Hampton
The sergeant there was a big guy looked like he was 21 and a weight lifter.HE said I heard about you from Mr Lewis the house man and told me to go inside the clothing room and pick out some cloths. Everybody in Hampton was scared of him anyway I pulled a lot of cloths out to find the ones that fit me right and he came to the door and told me to pick them up and put them back on the shelf. I told him to come on inside and close the door that we had to get something straight. His eyes got big and he said don,t worry the clothing room guy would do it. The next day at breakfast Mr Lewis said for me to step out of line and count the guys. I was a sergeant And just for the record the big guy
left with three teeth less about two week later and I had one swollen blue/black eye but he gave back the cigs to this kid that had gotten them on visiting day. I also took all the stuff he had in his locker including the lock off his locker. Mr Lewis told me that he had it coming for a long time but no one would stand up to him. I use to scrub the floors with the guys that were punished and we would bet who could slide the futherest or do the most spins. No body ever shyed away from me I was just another guy.I hated mean and I hated for someone to be left out. They probably have a file three foot thick file on me but I could care less now I did not care then I damn sure don,t care now. To you I say nothing cause you got nothing to say.

I make six digits a year and dont have time to listen to someone whine. You should bend over til I call (no way )
Rees Perkins (b. abt 1729 - moved to near present-day Pamlico after getting married)

I am from Wales, in the United Kingdom, and I had a 4x gt-grandfather called Rees Perkins (b. 1812 or 1813 in Pembokeshire county, and d. in abt 1891 in Pembs. county). I have found something on the internet, which features an early to mid 18th century man also called Rees Perkins, who, like my distant ancestor, seems to have a link with Pembrokeshuire county in Wales. The webpage is http://jliptrap.us/gen/perkins.htm The latter Rees Perkins married nElizabeth Coulson, and moved to near present-day Pamlico in lower Florence County.

The two Rees Perkinses are two different people - one (my distant ancestor from Pembrokeshire, Wales, the 19th century), and the other an 18th century American with links, possibly ancestry, from Pembrokshire. Does anyone know of any possible links between the two men, for example, if they have any common ancestry?

South Carolina Industrial school for Boys

I read the bullshit that Thomas wrote about South Carolina Industrial school and could not belive it. You are full of
shit. I was there twice and stayed years not months.Spent time
in SAS ( special adjustment section )with Mr Glen And Mr Touchberry as house keepers. I ran away stole cars pushed staff down and never got hit nor did I ever hear of anyone getting hit. There is no gates because when I ran away I jumped over a small bush and was on the highway When you get there you see someone in administration and then they take you to Kershaw building untill you get placed into a building with people your own age Rutledge FOR LITTLE BOYS Pickens FOR BOYS a little older MIDDLETON for a little older
MARION for a little older HAMPTON for a little older And finally Calhoun For the oldest boys.I played football and baseball got taken to other schools to play them.Every building had a house Keeper and mine was Mr Vause in Marion and
Mr Lewis in Hampton I never saw a guard there that,s bullshit
We got three good hot meals a day and when we worked in the fields we always had a water boy who watered everyone. We wore army cloths and boots that we enjoyed wearing because they fit good and when we went to the chow hall we lined up two by two and no we didn,t march it was just so they could count us and be sure that we were all there to eat and the people who counted was the two boys that were house sargent,s
We ate and then when our table was through we went out and sat in this shaded area until Mr Cooper gave us work details. We smoked untill we went to work I worked in woodwork with me Hunter and then in the afternoon with the
maintence man I wish I could remember his name because all we ever did was laugh and watch him work. Most of the guys took barbering or mechanic To this day I got my certificate
From woodwork and Maintenance .As I said I screwed up a lot
I even remember cutting dow Mr vauses prize flower that he was going to enter in the fair just two weeks away NO I DID
NOT GET BEAT BUT HE WAS PISSED OFF.I drove the old mule to pick up the garbage I worked in the kitchen as a dish washer
They were metal trays I even tried to run away while working in the field but got caught by a post guard ( A POST
GUARD WAS A BOY JUST LIKE YOU AND DIDNT HAVE A REGULAR JOB SO WHILE YOU WORKED IN SAS THEY STOOD OUT IN THE FIELD LIKE A POST TO MAKE SURE YOU DIDNT SLIP AWAY Everyone had that job a time or two and hated it but if you were me you were posted somewhere so you could sneak a cig I broke every rule never got beat or as that idiot said got a corn run
across my knuckles.I dont see one thing in the report from
that idiot that was true that I remember and I hope the hell he reads this because I was there and broke every rule
If I had had to I would have been glad for my son to go there I would have even paid.If I could I would go back there to where the air was fresh and I found bugs in the fields and were told what they were and flying june bugs on a string and football and baseball. I WAS THERE IN THE EARLY
60S AND IF YOU WANT THE TRUTH ASK SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE TWICE AND YEARS AND TOOK UP A TRADE THAT LATER PUT ME IN A UNION JOB THAT TO THIS DAY PAYS MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE DREAM OF>There is the truth and there is what people want you to belive is the truth

I did not doubt your word because as I said in my last answer there was like 30 years or so in between Daddy's time and your Time . I do not doubt your word or my Daddy's ..
I went to the Courthouse in Florence as I came back from my Daughter's home in Cheraw SC one day and They told me the Records from the School had been sent to R.K. Richards School in Columbia (A Woman)She is . R.K. Richards told me when I called that they had sent the records to the Archives in Columbia and I could call or go there and they would give me the info. that I needed .When I called they told me it was Priviliged information and I called her back and told her and she said, it was not priviliged information and I had a right to it .I called back and told them and and when the called me back about 3 hours later and told me all they could find on any Butler's was where W.L Butler( My Uncle) was released in 1931 to his Grandfather .I ask if it was J.O Hathcock and he said he did not know so I said, You ,You haven't even looked or you are not telling me anything because you just think you are so right and if you found that you had to find more . I went to the Archives later and they would not give me anything at all, so I told them Thank you very much .
I will get it one day .hopefully .
Later ,
Norma

Hello Again
Please Please belive me when I say to you I did not mean to imply that your father was not telling you the truth. The
only thing that I can tell you is at my time. Hey maybe your
father was more of a hell raiser than me ( joke smile )But I
certainly gave them a hard time.As for our food there we grew
all of it.I spent my share of time in SAS and we were the ones
who worked the fields From throwing fertilizer by hand from a
sack ( little sacks ) that you carried around your waist to
some perferred around they re neck and some just carried tin
buckets and we threw it by hand. And then planting the seeds
and then weeding and then cropping all by hand.I think that
some of the jobs were stupid because they could have done them faster but latter I relized it wasnt fast they wanted They wanted to have us doing something after we were six cottages of young boys and seven if you count SAS.Do you
relize what would have happened if they just let us do nothing. Hey even by trying to keep us busy we still got into trouble ( smile )
Belive your father for he was there when I wasnt even born
that was his time there
Belive me for I can only tell you what it was like when I
was there
I wish you and your family the best and may the Good Lord
watch over you
Allways remember there was a reason any of us were there and
as I look back close to fifty years ago I relize that they dealt with the reason that I was there and that gave me the time to deal with myself .They never dealt with me they just kept me occupied and that was enough

Thanks again . I have a picture of the old School Building and I plan to put it in my family history when and if I ever get it done .
I guess by the time you got there 20-25 years after my father and Uncle , lot of changes were made from administration down . I knew my Daddy well enough to know he had no reason to tell a lie but I believe your side too after all a Grapevine doesn't Live forever LOL .They probably started getting some of their foods from state resources.

Norma Butler Hanna
Hello
Whos to say your family isnt right. But I can tell you we didnt have any grapes there when I was there. It was just a
self sufficientfarm. I are so much sweet corn and tomatoes and beans
that I had to go to the infiramy to see the nurse that was
Mr Touchberrys wife ( He was in charge of SAS in the afternoon.)We use to have pea fights on who could spit it the
hardest at each other. As I said I was there 61 62 and back in 62 until 63 64 so if you was to know anything about that time
feel free to ask. As for when your family members were there
only they can tell you. But please belive me when I say if
anyone got beat it should have been me and it never happened
in my time and you got to remember I never made it out of
Kershaw building where you were first placed untill they put
you in a cottage. Hell me and this guy ( I want mention his
name ) but we told the nightwatchman that someone was at the
door and when he unlocked it we pushed him down and ran away
and I had only been there a week at the most.I ONLY HAVE GOOD MEMORIES OF THE PLACE AND ONE STAFF MEMBERS DAUGHTER
AGAIN I WAS ROTTEN TO THE CORE AND NEVER EVEN HEARD OF ANYONE GETTING BEAT
