I hope there is someone who has information about Rosanna Levining (spelling is variable). Her name has come up several times in my research and although there are no direct connections to my husband’s Fairfield Co families I would like to know who she was. I suspect she was born a Cameron, a daughter of John who wrote a will in 1816 and mentions a daughter named Rosanna. If Rosanna Levining is John Cameron’s daughter then the Cameron females with her in the censuses would likey have to be daughters of one of her brothers, Joseph, Robert, or Simon.
Deed Bk TT, p 187 was a deed from Moses Robinson to Rosana Levining (James Robinson Jr, trustee). It was for 10 acres on a Branch of Jacksons Creek, of Little River. The deed made unto James Robinson Jr of the said district and state, agent & trustee for said Rosana Levening. Bounded by Moses Robinson, James Robinson and ?. s/ 22 Mar 1852, Moses Robinson, w/ Martha S Levining, Sarah Ann Robinson, r/ 20 Apr 1852.
The 1850 census for Fairfield Co shows:
Rosanna Levining, 36
Martha Levining, 18 (witness of the 1852 deed? Her age doesn’t match later censuses)
Mary Cameron, 45
Emmet Cameron, 26
Neighbors are John W Robinson, Moses Robinson, James Robinson, & Daniel Clark.
At the 1860 census Rosanna Livining, 48, is living with Martha S Livining, 24, and Sarah Cameron, 13. Julia Cameron, 15, is next door in the home of John Robinson. Other neighbors are Gladneys and Hamiltons.
The 1870 census shows:
Rosanna Levering, 55
Thomas Harris, 34
Martha S Harris, 34
William Harris, 3
Robert L Harris, 1
Calvin J Wilson, 11
I believe the last name should have been Harrison, not Harris. Next door are three Cameron females: Julia Y Cameron, 26, Sarah Cameron, 23, and Martha Cameron, 11.
And finally in 1880:
Rosana Levining, 67
Sarah J Cameron, 32, niece
Martha Cameron, 21, niece
Thomas Harrison, 44
Martha L Harrison, 45
William C Harrison, 13
Robert Lee Harrison, 12
Mary A Harrison, 7
John C Wilson, 21 (described as nephew?)
As a bit of an aside, I think Calvin J Wilson and John C Wilson is John Calvin Wilson, son of James Wilson who died in 1864. According to the estate file of James Wilson (Pkg 26, File 294) he left a son named John Calvin and his widow had remarried a Thomas Harris. (His name was actually Thomas F Harrison who was named guardian of John C Wilson in 1868 (Pkg 29, File 343). John’s description as nephew in the 1880 census is a bit confusing as John C Wilson was probably the step-son of Thomas Harrison, however with intermarriages the way they were, I suppose he could have been both!
Any ideas or leads for Rosanna? Thanks.
Added afer original post re: the James Wilson estate. The Martha living with Thomas Harrison in 1880 is probably not the widow of James Wilson. Distribution of Wilson's estate in 1868 indicates 1/6 went to Thomas Harris, "husband of wife of intestate" and 1/6 to child of widow of intestate & Thomas Harris. My interpretation is that James Wilson's widow had died and her widow's share was distributed to her heirs.
