Margaret,
It has been some time since we last corresponded. I do not have anything new for you except my opinion. In fact, I am convinced that we have exhausted the available records in old Edgefield District.
However, there are at least two more places to look. One place is
Fuhrman (sp?) University in SC. Apparently, it is the repository for extant old
Baptist Church records. I am reasonably sure that our
Taylor line were all Baptists. In any event, they may have something new for us. Do you know anything about this? Have you already checked these records?
The other source(s) is in
England. I know that at least some of my
Ward Taylor's descendants believe that he was a
Tory during the Revolution and returned to
England after the war. If true, there may be more family records in merry old
England. Any thoughts on how to continue our search there?
I remain convinced that your Jesse and my Ward/Nery/Leroy line are related. Both of my Leroy's sons (Richard and Leroy) came to south
Alabama and lived at least for a spell next door to your Jesse. I suspect that your Jesse is either a brother of my Nery
Taylor and thus a son of my
Ward Taylor or your Jesse was a son of Thomas or even Johnathan
Taylor both of whom I suspect were brothers of my
Ward Taylor.
Our lines must be related as they migrated more or less together and used the same names for their children.
There is an old Primitaive
Baptist Church just west of Elba,
Alabama. I forget the name, but have it in my research notes. According to the recently published
Coffee County Heritage Book the old church records are at the
Samford University Library in
Birmingham. The old church was adjacent to tracts owned by
Zebedee taylor! He must have been a member of that church! Thus, I suspect that we might find more about old
Zebedee and his family in those church records. Copies of those old records also are on file at the local library in either Elba or Enterprise, I forget which.
Oh well, that is enough rambling for tonight. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Michael
