I am a volunteer researcher with the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site near Summerville, South Carolina, USA. Dorchester was settled in 1696/97 and for various reasons had been abandoned by 1788. One of our missions is to build family history files for these settlers and locate their descendants. Eventually we hope to have a research center at the site as well as a website. If you are not familiar with Colonial Dorchester, please visit these websites to learn more:
http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com/stateparks/Parkdetail.A...http://www.teachingushistory.org/qt-dor/index-2.htmSome of the family history information we have gathered so far is posted at Rootsweb WorldConnect (Family Trees):
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dorchest... To share the information you may have any Colonial Dorchester surnames, please contact me at
dorchesterfamily@aol.com. Depending on the type of data you have, we can determine how you can contribute to the project.
Copies of any original documents would be wonderful to add to our files. Copies of family bibles, diaries, letters, photographs, printed genealogies or histories are some of the items that will help build our files.
If you would like to be included in our registry of Colonial Dorchester descendants, please include your name, address, telephone and e-mail address as well as Dorchester, SC surnames you are researching. This information will allow other researchers to contact you directly to share information.
Please let me know if we can help you in your research. If you have not done so, please visit the park and participate in one on the archeological digs. You might just “find” something that was used by one of your ancestors.
Sincerely,
Phoebe Willis
