Riggs Our sister, Mrs. Olivia Thrower Riggs, was born February 28th, 1845, and died at her home, near Ridgeville, S. C., July 8th, 1897. She was married to Mr. E. R. Riggs, of Ridgeville, Dec’r 26th, 1865. She was the mother of eight children, five of whom preceded her across the narrow stream of death. She was a devoted Christian from early life. The life she possessed wielded a great influence for good upon all with whom she came in contact, her friends recall her memory with grateful recollections. Our mother died when the writer was an infant, leaving six children. Sister Olive assumed mother’s place in the home, by her sweet Christian influence all of the family were early brought to Christ. The call of the Master came suddenly, under an acute attack of indigestion her life closed upon earth. We had hoped that she might have remained much longer, but the Lord willed otherwise. Our hearts were greatly consoled in her dying hour as we bent low to catch the gentle whisper of “Dear Jesus”, we thought of the blessed truth of Jesus walking with the Christian through the valley of the shadow of death. This bereavement has greatly strengthened our faith in Christ. She left a fond husband and three children, many relatives and a host of friends who “sorrow not, even as others which have no hope”. Our sympathies are with the bereaved husband and children, but especially do we sympathize with the husband upon whom the shadows have fallen by the sad loss of his precious wife. In all our sorrow may we have the abiding Comforter, and may we so live as to realize the truth of Jesus when he said, “Let not your heart be troubled. In my Father’s house are many mansions. Because I live ye shall live also.” D. E. Thrower
