I am Ramona Caraway Nichols. From research I have done my
great-great grandfather was Elijah Caraway Jr. who came to
Texas(first harrison county,1860,hunt county,1870, and
finally settled in wise county texas by 1880). He came from
Columbia county florida and he and his father, Elijah SR
are in the 1850 census there. Elijah jr. wife was Marena
Whittis, Whitehurst, and is buried in a wise county Texas
cemetery. Elijah Jr. was born about 1820 in Darlington
County South Carolina. His father, Elijah sr. was born about
1800 also in Darlington County. His father was Ezekiel
Carraway born about 1774. Ezekiel is in the 1850 Census of
Darlington Coutny at 76 years of age. Ezekiel's father,
Elijah born about 1750 came to Darlington County from Wayne
County North Carolina after his father Thomas died around
1791. Thomas in some deeds mentions a son John who lived
in cumberland County North Carolina. I did not know for
sure if this John could be the one who married Margaret
