Jean (John) Gaston Genealogy CD. He was born ca 1600 in France. Jean (John) Gaston was a Huguenot. William Gaston (born 1642), along with his brothers, John and Alexander, went to County Antrim in Northern Ireland between 1662-1668. He is referred to by genealogists “as the first Irish William Gaston” to distinguish him from brother John’s son William and others. He was the father of the Charleston, SC Gastons who emigrated in the 1700’s-1770’s from County Antrim, Ireland.
William Gaston (born 1680) in Carenleagh, Cloughwater, County Antrim, Ireland was the son of John Gaston (born 1645). He and his brothers, John, Hugh, Joseph, and Alexander arrive in America ca 1720 through the Port of Perth Amboy and settled in New Jersey. He married Olivet Lemon, also known as Mary Lemmon, b. 1688 in Scotland, d. 1752.
Their son, John Gaston, also known as Justice John Gaston (born April 4, 1703) in Ireland, died 1782 in South Carolina, buried in Burnt Meeting House Cemetery, Wylie’s Mill, Chester County, SC, resided (settled 1751/52) at Fishing Creek, Chester County, South Carolina, immigrated 1749 to Pennsylvania, occupation farmer, surveyor, Justice in South Carolina. His nine sons served as soldiers in the American Revolution as four of them lost their lives in that war.
Three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Matthew Gaston, said to be the great-grandsons of the first Irish William Gaston, emigrated to South Carolina, with their sister, Jane Gaston Walker, leaving a fourth brother, Alexander, in Ireland, b. about 1750; d. about 1840; of these Joseph Gaston m. Martha Gaston, daughter of Justice John (above). It is from this line that the Town of Gaston is named.
This CD contains 958 pages with many pictures, land records, and files submitted by various researchers. I have added much lineage to the main body of the Gaston Family file which is fully indexed. Also, included is a fictional novel “Polly of the Pines” featuring Justice John Gaston of Revolutionary Fame.
This CD is available from Betty J. Carson, 368 Sease Hill Road, Lexington, SC 29073 for $35.00 postpaid. If you buy two or more, the price will be $30.00 each postpaid.

Contains connection on many of the lasted families.

I have a relative named Thomas C Hughes, who lived in Orangeburg,Sc, with son named Wilkiam. Thomas was born in 1819 and died in 1874. He is buried in Spartanburg's, Ebenezer Church Cemetary and listed as a Confederate soldier.

I am trying to find his parents. It is possible that his father was also named Thomas, who may have come to the area around 1754.

Mitch Hughes

The earliest record I have of him was that he moved from Chesterfield District, S.C. to Mississippi and married Sarah Foster in 1810. I do not know if he is related to Daniel McMillan who married Jean Thompson. It possible they are father and son. If anyone can confirm this I would greatly appreciate it.

I think that perhaps the parents of Robert Patterson Boyd are Martha Patterson who married a man name Boyd and who was killed in the Revolutionary War and then married James Norton. I am related through the Norton line but have a letter to Thomas Patterson Norton from his sister, Esther Patterson Harper in 1842. She lived in Illinois and he lived in Ralls County, Missouri but she mentions that Patterson Boyd had died. The parents of Thomas Patterson Norton were Martha Patterson and James Norton. The Robinson family is very interesting. Contact me if you want more information.

John Turnbough had 150 acres of vacant land on Jacob's Branch of Rocky Creek surveyed on 2-March-1773 in the Chester District of Colonial SC. He then had the survey certified in Charleston on 11-March-1773. The following year in 1774 he was granted this land by the province.

Is there anyone out there who has copies of these 2 surveys and a copy of the grant?

Is there anyone who has access to (Chester Co., Court) obtaining copies of the above 2 surveys and grant?

You may post copies here for downloading or you may e-mail me direct at memobo@att.net. Samuel lived and died in Chester Co., SC and is buried there although, as for burial I only have Rockey Creek, Chester Co., SC. I do have a record of his last will & testament. Mary went with their son, Robert James,( my direct line) to Stewart Co., Tn and died and is buried there. Since Samuel and Mary had a plantation in Chester Co., I think he would have been buried there on it at Rockey Creek.

Nancy Jerusha Stone and Elizabeth Stone

Who were these 2 Stone sisters?
Nancy Jerusha Stone was born about 1802 in South Carolina. She married about 1818
to Edward Colvin; Edward Colvin, born around 1798 in Chester County, South Carolina. The couple left Chester County, South Carolina shortly after the census of 1830 and moved to Green County, Alabama… one of their children Martha A. Colvin was born in 1833 in Alabama. So we know that Nancy Jerusha Stone was alive in 1833 in Alabama.
Edward Colvin went on to live until Feb 3, 1849 and died in Smith County, Texas. What took him to Texas? Where was Edward Colvin buried in Smith County, Texas?
Did Nancy Jerusha Stone make the move to Texas? Would anyone know when and where Nancy Jerusha Stone died and her place of burial?
Edward was mentioned June 27, 1846 (it is stated in document that Joseph Crosby's widow and the 3 orphans are several years now permanently in Alabama, and that the children's mother ,Elizabeth Stone Crosby, is sister in law of Edward Colvin.) at Pickens County, Alabama probate.
Elizabeth Stone, sister of Nancy Jerusha Stone was born between 1800 and 1810 in South Carolina and married Joseph Crosby (Crosby was born between 1800 and 1810 in South Carolina) They married between 1825 and 1830, judging the eldest daughter’s birthdate; Their children:
1. Emily A Crosby was born about October 17, 1829 at Chester County, South Carolina. Emily died August 30, 1893 at Pickens County, Alabama.
2. Amanda F Crosby was born in 1830 at Chester County, South Carolina.
3. Guthrie D. Crosby was born about 1833 at Chester County, South Carolina.

Joseph Crosby died intestate, before July 1833; and his estate settled in Chester County, South Carolina. Then as noted above, Elizabeth and the children relocated to Alabama.

I am almost certain that I have identified the father and mother of these 2 Stone sisters. But I need more evidence; Does anyone know more about them? How, when and where did they die? Any other records? documents? leads?
Where did these 2 sisters and their families live and where were they buried? Were there other Stone families in these areas, that they could be linked with ? It would be great to share research with other researchers.

I am sorry I know nothing of your Jennings family, but I would be interested to know when your Jennings lived in Chester. I suspect one of my relatives is named after a Jennings as it is her middle name. Her full name is Batie Narcissa Jennings Walker (with Walker being her maiden name). She was born in Chester in 1845. I suspect perhaps a grandparent had the name Jennings. Her mother was a McCullough, also from Chester.

Can you shed any light on my mystery? Thanks.
