My name is Dan Brown, and I am the great great grandson of Dan Brown, and the son of the Benjamin Franklin Brown III, whose grandfather, BFB, was one of the sons of Dan Brown, of Anderson, SC. I have been looking for a copy of Louisa Ayer VanDiver's book, "Traditions and History of Anderson."
A great aunt, who died in 1938, refers to this book often in the genealogical work she did before she died.

I note that there have been no posts on this thread for 5 years. If you have mined all the information you want, and are so disposed, would you be interested in selling your copy of the 1928 edition? I would love to have a chance to pore over it.

I am looking for the grave sites of William Hackney and his wife Martha Barker Hackney. Martha was also known as Patsey. I believe William died about 1870 and Martha may died around 1860. They moved to Esom Hill probably between 1830 and 1840 from Greene County, GA. Also would like to find graves of John Hackney and wife Nancy Musgrove Hackney. John and William were mostly likely brothers. Any information on this family would be appreciated. There is no reason I can think of that they would be buried anywhere else than the Cedartown area.
Thanks
Janie

He died in the 1870s in New Market, Alabama where he lived near Mahalia's family. I descend from this 2nd youngest daughter, Mahalia McKee Yarbrough. I'm delighted to share information with others.
Rhonda

Martha Mahala Waddell b. abt 1810 m. William Hubbard, Jr.

According to our family historian, Martha Waddell was the daughter of Isaac Waddell and Nancy Middleton. No dates for either. Isaac was the son of the Reverend James Waddell and Mary Gordon. Mary Gordon descends from the Stewart Dynasty of Scotland.

I'm not sure who Nancy Middleton's parents were, but I have a hunch they're connected to the family of Robert Young Hayne, as Mahala's firstborn son was named Robert Hayne Hubbard. Of course that could be due to family support of Gov. Hayne. But it's a good place to start, I think.

He was born in Virginia circa 1815 and moved to Polk County, Tennessee after his time in South Carolina. Finally, he moved to Wolfe City Texas, where he died. He married Ann R. His children were James, John, Martha, Mary (Mollie)and Henry by his first wife; and George, David Julia and Sarrah by his second wife.

Conflicting information about his parents.
I am researching a David McCullough who married Phoebe Corner; they had a dau. named Catherine. My info. says David's parents were Hugo and Catarina Ross McCullough. Does anyone have these people in their family. The only info. I have on David is that he died in 1824.
Thanks for any assistance.
Texasbird.

Thank you for your reply. I do not know the birthstate for David McCullough nor all the states where he was a resident. He married Phoebe Corner in 1809 in Baton Rouge, LA. Their (suspected) daughter, Catherine, was born in Louisiana, so David may have died there in 1824, perhaps in East Baton Roughe Parrish, LA. I am attempting to get clues from the Ancestry.com family trees and some of the message boards. People don't put much information out these days.
Thanks again,
Julia

While digging around at the Clemson University library, I found a copy of the thesis "A History of the Social, Economic, Political Development of Belton, South Carolina" written in 1960. I've just started reading through it, but it covers the early settlement of Belton, the growth of the railroad, the construction of schools, etc. More importantly, there are a lot of names listed in the thesis.

I'm in the process of writing up my own index as I come across names while reading. I'm not sure what the copyright restrictions are, but I will gladly post the list of names and any relevant passages if someone sees a name that they are interested in. The thesis also includes a list of the Belton postmasters, mayors and intendants, educators, and the first registrants after women's suffrage passed in 1921.

What state did David McCullough live in that died in 1824. Was he a imagrant or was he born in the states. Has any of these McCulloughs did a DNA. If all McCullough families would do a DNA they would find other groups of McCulloughs they were related to. It cuts way down on your research because it gives you people that has did research and it lets you tie yours to theirs. It helped me a lot.My three imagrant McCulloughs settled in Iva Pendleton District South Carolina in 1790. The were James, William and John. James and william died in 1819 and John died in 1833

OLD ANDERSONVILLE, South Carolina - A Proud Town

I am researching my family names and am a brick wall, in researching Old Andersonville SC around 1840, which no longer exist.

My GG-Grandfather Robert A. HUBBARD married Lucinda SMITH there on April 11, 1841, both were from (Old) Andersonville, South Carolina. The ceremony was performed by Rev. David Simmons, and it probably took place at Andersonville Baptist Church which Rev. Simmons helped establish in 1839. I am in hopes some old Church records or Cemetery records will shed some light on these families. We do not know who either of their parents where or who their families where, but just that the article says that both bride and groom are from Andersonville, SC.

Sadly I cannot find alot on Old Andersonville as it finally fell by the wayside due to constant floods in the early and mid 1800's and the construction of Lake Hartwell pretty much finished it off.

Most I communicate with try to direct me to Andersonville, GA but this is incorrect- There was an Andersonville, SC and it was a very prominent town in the early 1800's with people from all around South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina coming there.

Also with the close proxeminity of all the above states of SC, GA, TN and NC all coming to a point in the Old Pendleton Didtrict, SC, it was easy fro people to move around only a few miles and be from a different state.

Thanks for any help or direction you may have on either of these early families and this Proud Old Town of ANDERSONVILLE, South Carolina.

Danny Skillman
7343 County Hwy. 39
Altoona, AL 35952

dj4skillman@gmail.com
