I am researching my family names and am a brick wall, in researching Old Andersonville SC around 1840, which no longer exist.
My GG-Grandfather Robert A. HUBBARD married
Lucinda SMITH there on April 11, 1841, both were from (Old) Andersonville,
South Carolina. The ceremony was performed by Rev. David
Simmons, and it probably took place at Andersonville
Baptist Church which Rev. Simmons helped establish in 1839. I am in hopes some old Church records or Cemetery records will shed some light on these families. We do not know who either of their parents where or who their families where, but just that the article says that both bride and groom are from Andersonville, SC.
Sadly I cannot find alot on Old Andersonville as it finally fell by the wayside due to constant floods in the early and mid 1800's and the construction of Lake
Hartwell pretty much finished it off.
Most I communicate with try to direct me to Andersonville,
GA but this is incorrect- There was an Andersonville, SC and it was a very prominent town in the early 1800's with people from all around
South Carolina,
Georgia,
Tennessee, and
North Carolina coming there.
Also with the close proxeminity of all the above states of SC,
GA, TN and NC all coming to a point in the Old
Pendleton Didtrict, SC, it was easy fro people to move around only a few miles and be from a different state.
Thanks for any help or direction you may have on either of these early families and this
Proud Old Town of ANDERSONVILLE,
South Carolina.
