My g grandfather Harmon (on one record his first name is spelled Holloman) Howard Hayes b. 1817-1818 in SC first shows up on the 1840 Anderson County SC Census. In 1850 he shows up on the Franklin Co., Ga. Census as H. H. Hayes, farmer. In 1860 he appears as H. H. Hayes, school teacher. By 1870 he is listed on the Franklin Co., Ga. census as Hamond Hayes, farmer and by 1880 is still on the Franklin Co. census as Harmon H. Hayes.
He was married four times during his life: 1/m. Fanny Teake, 2/m. Caroline _____, 3/m. Mrs. Margaret P. (_____) Williams and 4/m. Sarah Eliza Davis. He died in 1890 and is buried in what is now Stephens Co., Ga.(originally Franklin Co., Ga.) His 15th child was my grandfather who was named Harmon Harrison Hayes (he was 2 yrs. old when his father died.) Due to this fact, not a lot is known in our family about Harmon Howard Hayes'family or ancestors. I am interested in anyone who might have researched this family or some branch of it and who might be willing to work together or share info. His children were: 1. Cynthia M. Hayes 2. Elizabeth K. Hayes who m. James Franklin Casey, 3. Rebecca E. Hayes, 4. Waddy L. Hayes who m. Nancy T. Rice, 5. Mary Jane Hayes, 6. Cyrus N. Hayes who 1/m. Elizabeth A. _____ and 2/m. Susan M. _____, 7. Willis P. F. Hayes who m. Mary J. _____, 8. William Howard Hayes who 1/m. Betty Reynolds or Reaves and 2/m. Martha Ridgeway, 9. Martina C. Hayes who m. William S. Fulbright, 10. Nancy C. Hayes, 11. David Evin Hayes who m. Nora F. _____, 12. Emma Hayes who 1/m. ____ Linsley, Linley or Linsey and 2/m. James Harris, 13. Frances Theodosia Hayes who 1/m. Joseph Payne Waters and 2/m. George Jinkins and 3/m. Jesse Yates and 4/m. ____ Jackson, 14. Theodora Hayes who m. Nathan DeFoor and finally 15. Harmon Harrison Hayes who m. Mittie Sedora Isbell.
I communicated with one researcher in Alabama who had a Jacob Hayes in Anderson Co. in 1820-40, but his family moved on to Forsythe Co., Ga., Carroll Co. Ga. and by 1870 was in Ala. That Jacob had a son he named Harmon H. Hayes and many of the other names are similar. When my Harmon Howard Hayes married his 4th wife, the children by his third wife left and moved to Alabama to the same area. However, this researcher and I were unable to find definite proof of family connection. Is there anyone who can help me?

Could this Harmon H. Hayes be the brother to Hosea P. Hayes/Hays? I believe Hosea was a teacher also.

I have Willis Hayes and Charlotte Howard b. abt. 1792 in Edgefield Co. SC, m. abt. 1812/13 in Anderson County and I think most children b. there, they were in Anderson at least through the 1840 census but by 1850 were in Talladega Co. AL. Their children 1) Jared Howard 2) Harmon Howard 3)George Pulaski "Hosea" 4) C. Rebecca 5) Seth W. 6) William 7) Adrah 8) Hiram.

I have extensive info on the Howard family and there is a book by Marilee Cory that follows the Howard line. I'm not sure about Willis Hayes' parents but lots of "clues" on Hays in Anderson Co.

I'd like to hear from anyone who is researching Hays in SC prior to 1790.

Hello Everyone, I'm still stuck on my William Hayes/Hays.And I'm just now getting around to looking in on this message board since ah well a year ago. Beverly I know your watching. So you might want to go back over some of this. We do have a Franklin Hays and he married in to Thomas Hayes line. But I was told these two Hayes/Hays families were not related. Check the 1880 census. William Franklin Hays married Lucinda Hayes/Hays (Varennes, Anderson, SC 1880 census)

Hi Beverly, your statement about having info on this Howard Line caught my eye. Have a question for you. I'm trying to identify the parents of Michael Howard b. 1793 Edgefield m. Temperence Watson. These names keep bouncing around Michael but can't get them to tie in. Thanks in advance for your help. LENita
