Classification: Query
Surnames: Greene, Kenyon, Lewis, Wilcox, Richardson
Following Barry's example here are my dead-ends.
Who is the father of Browning Green? First mention of his name is in Amos Green's will in Charlestown dated 13 Apr 1776. Amos names his grandson Brownell Green. Next mention of his name is in 1790 census when he is called Browning Green and in every other reference he is called Browning Green. Brownell (Browning) Green was the son of Amos' dau, Elizabeth. Elizabeth did not marry Nathan Kenyon as reported by Frank L. Greene. Charlestown records show that Nathan's wife was Mary Greene. BTW Mary is also a deadend -- who were her parents? Back to Elizabeth -- did she marry Mr. Greene and if so, who? Or was Brownell (Browning) illegitimate -- my guess. Charlestown records do not mention Elizabeth except to report her birth. There is no indication that I have found in Charlestown records of Amos having an illegitimate grandchild, although in 1763 Amos was paid for court attendance in a case of bastardy against Salmon Treat Richardson. Census records place Browning's birth between 1766 and 1774.
Who were the parents of Martha, wife of Daniel Kenyon? Martha was Browning Green's mother-in-law, Browning having m(2) Dinah Kenyon. Browning and Dinah's first child was Martha W. Greene, suggesting that perhaps Martha Kenyon's maiden name may have begun with a "W." Capt. Howard N. Kenyon did not do a good job on Daniel and Martha Kenyon in "American Kenyons." The best information I have is that Daniel was the son of Thomas and Mary (Ladd) Kenyon and was b 24 June 1721 in South Kingstown. He married Martha ca 1750-51 (actually bracketed by records between 24 Mar 1748/9 and 11 Nov 1751). From census records Martha was b ca 1733 and died in Charlestown between 24 June 1722 and 5 May 1823.
Then as discussed in replies by Al Lewis and myself to Barry's query with respect to Mary wife of Nathaniel Lewis. I am looking for additional evidence that Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Wilcox) Lewis. The birthdates of all of Joseph's and Mary's children are not known, but those that are known were born between 1707 and 1730. The birth of Mary, d/o of Joseph and Mary, is not recorded. Mary Lewis, who m Nathaniel in 1729, was born ca 1711 and died in Hopkinton 8 Mar 1797. The evidence that points to Joseph and Mary as being the parents of Mary Lewis who m Nathaniel Lewis is twofold: First no other Mary Lewis is known in the area that was of the right age to have been Nathaniel's bride. That is not a good foundation on which to build a proof. Second, Joseph and Mary had a son named Amos Lewis and Nathaniel and Mary also named their first child Amos Lewis. Nathaniel and Mary named their eldest dau Mary Lewis. So you can see why I would like to find some additional evidence that Mary wife of Nathaniel was the dau of Joseph and Mary.
Thanks for listening.
