She died in Avondale age 88 4-18-1908 with barely a mention in the Westerly paper. Not in We. or R.I. death records. She was a Black/Indian lady of the Bent family, widow of Perry Hazard of Stonington where they resided. Is Avondale on both sides of the river? Could the record be in Stonington

Surnames: Hazard/Perry
I would also try the Narr.Times...because there were many Hazards in So.Kingstown,RI....and poss. relatives of Caroline. I do not have the email add. for the library but I know they would look up on request. I knew a Mary Perry that ran a small restruant and ice cream shop in charlestown, near the Indian Church in the 40's/50's. I think the Native Amrican Center in Hope Valley might be able to give you some info. Just a few ideas...

I did use both newspapers. I think I need a trip to Stonington. And maybe the Cultural Center in Old Mystic.

The Stonington Town Clerk's Office, located in The Stonington Town Hall, would have death records. Avondale is a small community, located in Westerly, R.I. Death records were issued in the state where the person died, so I'm surprised you didn't find her record in R.I.

Hi!
Her death should be in The Westerly Sun. It is on microfilm in The Westerly Library. Did you check with the Rhode Island State Archives? Was she a member of The Narragansett Indian Tribe? The Westerly Library is undergoing work and access to microfilm may be impossible?
Avondale is only on Westerly side.

I read the West. Sun in RIHS and all there was was a tiny brief mention that she died in her bed in Avondale. I'm well aware of the R.I. side but you can almost throw a stone across the river at that point. Nothing in Narr. Times either. She was in the Pawcatuck directory to 1908. Perhaps she was working in Avondale, lived across the river.

What part of the Bent family is she? I have some Bent's in my genealogical database that are collateral to my maternal line.

Thank you.
