I am looking for the descendents of Hicks and Nancy (Jones) Gifford. Hicks (Hickes, Hix) Gifford was born in 1795, probably in Westport, MA. He was the son of William Gifford and Nancy Brown. He married Nancy Jones in 1815 in Providence, RI. The US Census reveals that by 1820, he was in Bethel, Windsor Co, VT. By 1830, he was in Schuyler, Herkimer Co, NY. By 1840, he was in Coles Co, IL. In 1837 and 1839 he purchased land in Douglas County, IL. There is no census record for Hicks Gifford in 1850. However, there is a dead letter for “Hix” Gifford in Coles County, IL in 1841. He appears to have had two sons and three daughters. One of his daughters is Harriet Corletta Gifford, born in 1828 in NY and died in 1874 in MI. She married William H. Walker.
