I'm just beginning to do genealogical research related to my Irish ancestors in Woonsocket, RI. I'd be grateful for any information, leads, and/or guidance in identifying fellow descendants of the Lacy family in Woonsocket, RI.

My g-g-g grandfather, Patrick Lacy, 1801-1887, was married to Sarah (family name unknown), 1810-1885; both are buried in a plot owned by Mrs. Catherine (Lacy) Gilbert and Patrick Shunney (husband of Sarah Lacy) in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, MA. The headstone indicates that Patrick Lacy was a "native of Co. Tipperary, Ireland."

Patrick's and Sarah's first two children, Catherine (Kate)(1839-1907) and Anna (1842-?), were born in Ireland. Children Peter (1843-?), John (1845-78), Johanna (1847-?), Margaretta (1849-before 1860), Michael (1849-before 1860), and Sarah T. (1854-1911) were born in Maine; Patrick F. (1856-1886) was born in Rhode Island. According to the censuses, they lived first in Smithfield and then in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. I've wondered if this might not have been a move but an effect of changing city limits -- in 1870, the family is included in "Smithfield Districts 1 & 4"; in 1880, they're on Sayles Street in Woonsocket.

My research suggests that Peter returned to Maine, where he married Sarah McLaughlin (1846-?) and had one child, Emily; Catherine married John Gilbert and remained in Woonsocket until her death; Anna (sometimes Hannah) married Loughlin Almon and remained in Woonsocket until her death; I have lost track of Johanna, who married Michael Heffernan; my g-g grandmother, Sarah, married Patrick Shunney and remained in Woonsocket until her death.

Until I began doing this genealogical work in the past year, my family had very little knowledge of Sarah Lacy Shunney's background (except that she was a professional storyteller, had been born in Maine, and was especially close to her sister, "Aunt Kate"). The above information has been gleaned from family stories, information available online, church records, and visits to the cemetery in Woonsocket.

I would love to connect with Lacy family descendants in the US and Ireland. Any info or leads would be appreciated!!!
