Hello, Im tracking down a George Dunbar Sweet from Rhode Island who may have been a sea captain in the 1770s. It's possible he relocated to South Carolina to become a reverend at the turn of the 1800s. George Dunbar Sweet was the son of William Sweet born about 1715 who was a mariner in Warwick or possibly Newport Rhode Island area.

I believe George Dunbar Sweet (William's son) was a slave ship captain during the 1770s. He might've married Rachel Ross Porcher on Sept 22 1801. I am looking for any shred of info on him that might prove of his conversion from slave ship captain to reverend. Or any other info that may indicate this reverend George Dunbar Sweet is the same George Dunbar Sweet who worked for the Vernon Brothers (Rhode Island) trading in slaves.Thanks. Terry Cooper
