For information on Giles Slocum m. Joan Cooke, b.d.m., and some Slocum and Cooke line data, try the Mormon's site www.familysearch.org, enter both names, enter "United States", then enter "Massachusetts", and try the pedigree files...you'll find at least one which will work. Although only as good as the contributing sources, this Mormon site is a wonderful place to start looking, but you need to back it up with primary sources afterwards.

I've seen a lot of interest in Giles Slocum, son of Philip Slocombe and Charity Bickham of Old Cleeve. Not much seems to be known about Philip. I can add a bit, as i copied his will today...
He wrote his will in 1624, and it was proved in 1625. He was living in Goathurst, Somerset. His legacies were to his wife (Charity), son Giles, and to his unborn child "if it live and survive".

I have a sketchy tree on the Slocums.

Anthony Slocum m. ?
Giles Slocum m. Joan
Giles Slocum b. 1647, m. Anne in 1669
Ruth Slocum m. Edward Easton
Edward Easton m. Eliza Turner
Ruth Easton m. Joseph Wanton Taylor
Benjamin Taylor m. Susannah Stedman
Susan Taylor m. George M. Crabb

As you can see, the main families of Newport liked each other a LOT! LOL!! Joseph Wanton Taylor was the son of Robert Taylor of Newport, who married Rebecca Coggeshall, the granddaughter of John Coggeshall, who was the brother of Ann Coggeshall, who married Peter Easton. "If your family tree don't branch, you might be a redneck!" LOL!! Any info you can correct or add to would be greatly appreciated!

Please send your email and I will send you quite a bit on the Slocums. I am working on the Slocum tree for a friend of mine. She is related to the Slocums of Dartmouth, MA which originated thru Newport, and Giles and Joan. my email is oceanman13@msn.com
