The source of the following information is Barry Michie who obtained it from someone who purchased the record on eBay. He has given permission for the information to be posted on the York County board.
The information concerns a Shatto family who, at one time, resided in York County, PA. I have no additional information about this family or the person who is in possession of the documentation.
David Chateau, was the son of Jean Nicholas Chateau, Jr., who immigrated as a young boy with his mother, Eva Maria (maiden name unknown), and father, Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., to Philadelphia 3 Sept 1739 on the Loyal Judith. The Chateau's were Hugenots who went to Germany; Jean Nicholas Chateau, Sr., eloped with a Catholic and came to PA. All their male children were baptized Protestant and most the girls Catholic ..... which says something about religious tolerance in colonial Pennsylvania.
The David Shatto family has strong roots and presence in Cumberland, now Perry, and other PA counties. David Shatto was first married to his first cousin, Susan Shatto (c. 1783 - c. 1813 & d/o John Anthony Chateau & Susannah Shade), by whom the first three children were born. It is probable that these children were born in what is now Perry Co.
He was married secondly to Julianna Gardner (5 Sep 1798 Cumberland Co PA - 19 May 1865 Juniata Twp. Perry Co PA & d/o William Gardner, Jr. & Catherine Kitch), by whom the last nine children were born. All these children were born in Perry Co.
Julianna remarried to the widower, Peter Troup, and is buried in Koch's Sulphur Springs Christian Church yard, Juniata Twp., Perry Co. PA which is now in Little Buffalo State Park. Her tombstone reads: OUR MOTHER / In Memory of / Julia A. Troup / Wife of / David Shatto / Who Died / May 19, 1865 / Aged 66 Yrs, 8 m. / & 14 days / Blessed are the dead who die / in the Lord.

On the inside cover and fly leaf is the following, appearing as if someone is practicing the spelling and writing of a name
"July Shatto" "Julyanna Shatto" "Julia" [in ink] followed by what looks like "mater" in extremely faint pencil and then in heavier pencil "Shatto" then a signature, "D.H. Shatto" who was one of the children.
In the center of the book under "Familien Register" are the following entries. All the entries are written in the same block letters, however "David Shatto Sr." on the bottom of pages 1 & 3 is in cursive and appears to be a signature..
All the entries of the children are in black ink but for the last child, Sarah Ellen's, which is in red. You will notice that Sarah Ellen was born 24 days after the death of her father, David, by smallpox. All the printing is in the same hand and block style, so it definitely was not written by David --- perhaps by Julianna or one of the children. Interestingly, neither birth records of David's two wives nor the death record of his first are included.
Here it is verbatim (within quotation marks) with no notes, interjections as it appears on the family pages in the center of the book ... all punctuation, spelling & parantheses are as the original.
