Hello Jim - I did not locate a death notice or obit for Alpheus Crawford, but I was able to find a marriage for him in 1907 to Mrs. Mary A. DAGUE.
source: January 19, 1907, Daily Independent page 1, Saturday; Monessen PA.
"Conclusive evidence that Cupid darts his arrow not alone at the young but those of more mature years as well, is furnished by the marriage of Alpheus Crawford, aged 66, of Bentleyville, and Mrs. Mary A. DAGUE, aged 52 of Scenery Hill, Washington county at the clerk of courts office yesterday afternoon. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. S. White, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Washington, and was witnessed by Deputy Clerks E. E. Robb and W. S. Lockhart."

Jim,
Alpheus was in Co. A of the 140th PA vol Inf. He went in as a Private and was discharged as a Corp. His service record is on Film M554, Roll 24 at the National Archives.
Genforum.genealogy.com/civilwar/ is a website for the Civil War. Many knowledgable folks contribute. Also, Alice Gayley has a site called PA in the civil war. You may get in touch with her at the Civil War forum.

A puzzler.
According to the Grable Genealogy pg 16:
Emmor Crumrine Grable Born 25 June 1868, died 23 Aug 1943. Married Mary Emma Crawford 20 Jul 1890. Mary was born 29 Apr 1869 Mary was the daughter of Alphaes Crawford and Elizabeth Scott.
Mary died 14 Mar 1942

Their children were:
Flora Rebecca Crawford
Mary Elizabeth Crawford
Mary Emma Crawford

Emmor and Mary Crawford were my Grandparents.

So... Who was Alpheus Crawford and Mary Dague

Surnames: Crawford, Dague, Crumrine Grable
Mary EMMA Crawford is the same age as the Emma in Alpheus'household in the 1880 census. Notice the Crumrine connection as Alpheus lived next to 3 Crumrine families.
Mary Dague is Alpheus' 2nd wife as noted in the 1910 census. They had been married 3 years. David Dague is actually listed in 1910 as a son-in-law, and in 1920 he is with Mary as a son in Wheeling, WV.
Alpheus had a Civil war pension dated 3 Sep 1883. Those records are available fron the archives (NARA.gov).
In the 1900 census his 1st wife (Eliz.) said she had 11 children with 10 living at that time.
All this seems like it makes sense, what do you think??

Thanks Ralph
Clears it up somewhat.

Now all I need to do is find out where Mary Emma (Crawford) Grable and Mary (Dague) Crawford are buried.

Mary and Emmor Crawford are buried in Beallsville Cemetery. Go to www.beallsvillecemetery.org. There are several other Crawford, Dague, Grable and Crumrines buried there as well.
