DANIEL EUGENE MONG, 78, of 504 Cherrytree Road, Franklin, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, in his home. Born December 4, 1927, in Franklin, he was the son of Daniel Otis and Rozila Maud Hogue Mong. Mr. Mong was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan as a military policeman during World War II. Mr. Mong was employed for 43 years in the filter house at Pennzoil in Rouseville, retiring there. He attended the Galloway United Methodist Church. Mr. Mong was a member of the Franklin Post of the American Legion. He was a softball pitcher for many local teams for 32 years. Mr. Mong enjoyed animals, walking in the woods and his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was married October 5, 1951, to the former Joyce I. Gravatt, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Daniel E. "Deal" Mong Jr. and wife, Cherie L., Debra S. Sloss and husband, Robert E., and Stacy L. Porterfield and husband, Gregg A., all of Franklin; 10 grandchildren, Amber Boozell and husband, Tim, Aimee Sloss, Alicia Sloss, Kade Porterfield, Aryn Porterfield, Kalyn Porterfield and Dane Mong, all of Franklin, Jenna Kayser and husband, Trever, of Heron, MT, and Danae Mong and Anna Mong of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and three great-grandchildren, Darby Bloom Kayser of Heron, Aden Scott Boozell and Sedelle Renee Boozell of Franklin. He also is survived by a sister, Jean Louise Makoby of Springfield, FL. Mr. Mong was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine Ethel Rosner. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. David Hampson, pastor of the Galloway United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to the Venango County Humane Society, 2724 Deep Hollow Road, Franklin, 16323.
