Jacob Phinicy, a participant in the Battle of Lake Erie, under Commodore Perry, died at Somerset, Pa, on the 26th ultimo, aged 83 years. Mr. Phinicy served on board the Niagara, under command of Elliott, and was one of the only three persons on the vessel who came out uninjured. The other two were a brother and uncle. All three of these men were almost gigantic in stature, the shortest measuring six feet three inches in height.
