JOHN M'CLOSKEY DIES AT JACKSONS SUNDAY (69yrs. 7mos. 8dys.)

John McCloskey, a highly respected resident of Jacksons for the past forty years, died at his home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock following an illness of the past several months with a complication of diseases.

Mr. McCloskey had been ailing for sometime and was compelled to relinquish his duties several months ago at the Ellengowan Colliery, where he was employed because of failing health.

John McCloskey was born in Tamaqua and for forty years resided in Jacksons. He was a man of sterling qualities and was held in high esteem by his every acquaintance. Religiously he was a member of St. Aidan's Chapel, Jacksons. (This is in error, St. Aidan's Chapel was located in Ellengowan. It was a Roman Catholic church. Mass was, at one time, held in Jacksons but no formal church was located there.)

He is survived by his wife and the following children. Nellie, a teacher in the Mahanoy Township Schools; Isabelle, a registered Nurse of Philadelphia; Josephine, at home; Mrs. Daniel Britton, Shenandoah; John and Harry, of Jacksons, and Edward, of Mahanoy City. He is further survived by one brother, Harry McCloskey, of Mt. Carmel.

Funeral on Wednesday morning. James Haughney, funeral director.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTES: John W. McCloskey was born on Tuesday, 24 August 1858 and died Sunday, 1 April 1928. He was the son of John and Ellen [Kerrigan/Comber] McCloskey she was born in Ireland and he in Northern Ireland.

The Pottsville Republican OBIT had him as "...40 years of age..." instead of a "...resident of Jacksons for the past forty years...," and that OBIT has a number of other errors. I guess he was just another over the mountain coal miner and who cared if they got it right.
