I'm looking for any information on the ancestors of Daniel Webster Hollenbaugh beginning with his parents. He was apparently born in 1832 (maybe 1840) in Perry County and his father is NOT Levi. He moved to Michigan around 1870. I can't find any information for him before 1875. Thanks for any help! :)

Marriage license for Pearl Orvin and Ralph Smith available here, which gives a little information on parents:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-21943-29359-24...

It appears Lizzie Peck was 25 when she married Thomas Smith in 1910. He was 56. Lizzie's parents show as Dervin and Savilla Peck.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-21125-7076-73?...

Thomas Dromgold was most likely Michael Donnelly's nephew, the son of his sister Elizabeth who married Thomas Dromgold (Sr.). While I've not found Michael Donnelly's mother, his father seems to have been Edward Donnelly, a Rev. War vet who was born about 1755 in Ireland and died about 1824 at Donnelly's Mills. Edward was the ancestor of all the Perry County Donnelly's and came to Rye Twp. Cumberland County in the 1780's. His land would eventually become part of Perry County.

My Peters ancestor, George Peters was born around 1804 possibly York County, Pa and died Jan. 23, 1883, near Duncannon, Perry County, Pa. According to the 1880 census his parents were born in America. 1850 census has him in York County, Pa., where his son Silas was born in 1849, In the early 1850's George and family moved to Duncannon, Perry Co. Little is known about his wife Elizabeth, except she was born between 1813 and 1820. They had 5 children born between 1845 and about 1855, Juliann, Sarah, Silas, Agnes, and Elizabeth.
Thanks! I've seen the Criley surname spelled as Crelly and Oriley in census forms. I also found Mary Ann Criley's will when I was doing research at the Lenig library. I'm very stumped as to where they came from. The census records say they were both born in Pennsylvania, but I have no idea where and who their parents were. I really appreciate your help!

I'm not related, but I looked in familysearch.org, and was able to find the will for Mary Ann Criley written in May 1872, with death 18 Aug 1877. It appears she was widowed, as no mention of husband, all items bequeathed to children and grandchildren.
Those named:
son George W Criley
daughter Harriet Ulsh
daughter Maria Ann Shaeffer
children of daughter Susan (T?)ennis
Alice E, daughter of son John Wesley Criley.

I will post the link here, but will also give a way to find it if link does not work... these probate records are not searchable by names, so a little difficult to find..

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-28760-11472-47...

If link does not work and you wish to view the will, go to familysearch.org.
Scroll down to browse by Location.
Cick on United States
Scroll down to Pennsylvania, Probate Records, 1683-1994
Click on Browse through images
Click on Perry
Click on Wills 1854-1880 vol C-D
Change the image number from 1 to 496.
That will bring up page 436 in the will book and you will see the will and other statements following it.

There may be some family connection to the Jno Caufman as administrator of Michael Caufman estate, who deeded her property to her "in her own right"

Hope this is helpful... not related, just enjoy a good search. If you are unable to locate the will noted above contact my via email at lindad612@hotmail.com and I can download and send the file to you.

Their children were John Wesley, George Washington, Maria Ann(Shaffer), and Harriet. George Washington Criley was married to Martha Clementine Mayer. John Wesley Criley was taken prisoner during the Civil War and died in a prison camp. If anyone has any info, especially on who John Criley's parents were or where he may have lived previously, please let me know. Thanks!

We need to remember that orphanages in the 19th C. and early 20th C. operated in a cultural mileu different than our own in the 21st C. Mothers were regarded as caretakers of children and fathers went out to work as breadwinners. Very often, if a mother died, children were put in orphanages by their fathers since he was generally considered incapable of being caretaker for his children. On the other hand, if a father died, a mother of children could enter a plea in court stating her children were "orphans" and the court would grant her permission to put her children in foster home(s), usually with close relatives. In orphanages and in foster homes, if children were physically capable, they would be expected to work for their keep.

Hi,
Thanks for your post. Yes, I'm still out here, although I had to dust off my Emory files as I haven't looked at it in a while.

I think it's quite likely that your George and my John were brothers. There is also a James EMORY on the 1850 Census, age 38 who may also be connected. As you know these families tended to cluster together in those days.

Based on some research by another Emory descendant, I believe John's parents were William Emory/Emery and Jane Stewart. This researcher also believes William's parents were John Emery/Jane XX.

So we may have:

John/Jane Emery
***William Emery/Emory and Jane Stewart
*****John Emery/Emory and Martha VanScyoc
*****George Emory/Catharine
*****James Emery/Elizabeth ??
*****Others?

I have other info - why don't you contact me off line and we can exchange notes.

Scott Shuster
Houston
EMAIL: dshuster@ix.netcom.com

This message is so old, I hope you are still on these boards (10 years, though, a lot to ask). I suspect that I may be researching John's brother, George Washington, Emery. George was born in 1824, and died on Mar 5, 1906, in Black Log, Juniata County.

George lived in Perry County in the 1860 census in Tobyne Twp, with John as his neighbor. Also in the neighborhood (on the same page as George) is William and Jane Emery, who were in their 60's. I am wondering if William and Jane were George's parents. My clues are that at the time of the 1860 census, George had 4 children: William, John, Jane, and Mary. My great-grandmother, Parthenia, was born much later, in 1868.

Hoping this message still finds you.
He later met and married Susan Wertz in Landisburg, PA.,sometime after that. Their first daughter Amanda Griggs was possibly born in or near Landisburg. Then the family moved to Sunbury, PA., about 1835. Would like to find any marriage info on James and Susan and possibly birth info on Amanda. Don't know for sure at this point, but Amanda may have been born in Sunbury. I do know that the second child, James P. Griggs was born in Sunbury in 1837.

Maybe you could help me with this issue: Who was the wife of George Lenard, Sr.? Was her name Catherine Fullinger or Catherine Fillinger? It seems that there is more information about Ludwig Jacob Fillinger and Catherine Poole who had a daughter named Catherine. She married George Leonard. Do you have any information to confirm or deny this connection?

Also did you know that George Leonard was supposedly indentured (some used the word "sold" to a man named John Paden to serve his family from the age of six until he turned 21?

Any info you have would be appreciated.

You might email DotUnruh2@aol.com, and put Borell or Schmeid in the subject line. She has a huge book of genealogy on both families.
Also, there is going to be a Schmeid reunion soon in Reno, Nev. There will be a volumns of information on the Smead/Schmeid descendants.
