Not listed in these. I know that the land was owned as of 1874 - in the land owner map. Also know because of reference to the house in obits, and in a newspaper where the land was adjacent to another property that was being sold. So how do I find it in the courthhouse? The last person to live in the house died in 1968.

Looking at the plats, it seems that the 60+ acres of farm land was split up for other things.....

Lori

Thanks, I have looked at these, but I want to go to the courthouse.

See, many years ago, I was at the courthouse looking at other records. I never thought to look at the land records. I met a man there who was a real genealogist, who told me I was missing a real treasure by passing up land records.

It seems that people "attach things" to land records that genealogists find very interesting.

SO -- my question stands. :-)

Have you looked through the land warrants available online at the LDS web site at: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1999196

You have to browse through these, but it may save you a trip to the courthouse.

Richard

I have one day in the Northampton County Courthouse. I am looking to find the land records for my 3rd great grandfather. Through maps and census records, and mentions in newspapers, I know the area where he lived (in 1879).

Could some one let me know what information I need to have to search that far back? With just 1 day, and traveling 3000 miles (going to the courthouse is a side visit), I have to have as much legwork done now as possible.

Thanks in advance!
Lori

I am searching my Stocker family and have been stuck for some time. My GGG grandfather was John Martin Stocker who married Laura A Snow. John M. Stocker was born March 1858 in Dayton, Ohio and his siblings were, Charles and William and a sister Susannah who died at the age of 18. All I know of John M. Stockers parents is that his father was John P. Stocker possibly from Germany and his Mother was Mary Houser who passed in 1864. John P. Stocker married Elizabeth afterward and then married Sarah and after Sarah passed he married Mary Petite but was only married about 2 years to her. John P Stocker born December 1835 possibly in Germany but not sure of that and possibly came to the US in 1855. He married Mary Houser March 17, 1857. Any help on John P. Stocker and Mary Houser would be greatly appreciated.

Is the Forest Inn still in existence? My husband's family ran the inn in the early 1900s. I believe it was in Upper Nazareth Township, but I haven't been able to find anything about it online. All information welcome.

Hi, just a note about Phillip Kleintop and his family. There is now on ancestry.com., the Kleintop family info.. The original records were compiled by Mrs. Borger and her late brother of Kunkletown, PA. This (my)Kleintop family which originally settled in Kunkletown in the 1700's, later moved a bit west into the Plainfield, Chestnut Hill, Aquashicola, Pamerton area. The original records are now in the Easton PA library.

Hope this helps in your research. Pat Pry M.

I had a site a few years back that some of you may remember but lost everything on that site. I recently started working on a genealogy site again, this time purchasing a URL and a place to host it. I am slowly adding records as well as all of the goodies I once had posted. Feel free to conrtibute any records or pics you may have.

I have a few records typed but need to add the code to make it a webpage so bear with me as I tackle this huge project yet again.

www.pagenealogy.us

Tracy Christman

The Dryland Church Records

I recently received some info from the Trinity Lutheran and Dryland Reformed church regarding records for some Schall's and wanted to post it for those interested. Also there are some people listed as sponsors etc who I am not sure who they are. If anyone knows please let me know, they are...
Eva Stocker
John George Schall wf. Anna Maria
John Michael Schall b. 13 May 1774 bap 5 June
Catharine Dorr
Michael Wolff
Maria Barbara Roth
John Lindt

Good Afternoon,

I have good news, not only was the German book in the office but our pastor was looking for a book in one of his many bookcases and thought this back cover book (no title on spine - it was blank) was something he was looking for and when he pulled it out to look at it.....It was the translation done in 1929 by a Dr. Wm. J. Hinke, Prof. of Auburn Theological Seminary of Auburn, New York. He didn't even know we had it. He's only been the Pastor for the last 7-8 years. We've only been here 6 years. The translation was paid for by a Mrs. Wm. H. Meyer in memory of her late husband Wm. H. Meyer, Elder and Trustee - Donated December 14, 1930. We have the English translation at our disposal - what great news!!!!

The bad news is that the records don't start till 1763 and you were looking for a marriage in 1759 (and I may yet find that info for you). I list the page number that the following information is found written in this book. The "Title" page of this book is "Church Record of the Reformed and Lutheran Congregations in Nazareth Township Northampton County, Pennsylvania formerly The Dryland Church now the Trinity Lutheran and Dryland Reformed Hecktown, Pennsylvania"

I haven't come across any marriage records except for a few pages from the late 1920s and 1930s. There has to be a book somewhere and the same with death records. This may be the book that is missing from our church.

You were looking for a birth record for Nicholas Shall III who was born circa 1764 to Nicholas II and Anna Margaretha: Found

Page 5 Parents: Nicholas Schall and wf. Anna Margaret Nicholas b. 9 Sept 1764 bap 6 Oct 1764 Sponsors: Nicholas Schall and wf. Catharine

Maybe relatives: Baptisms

Page 80 1767 Nicholas Schall wf. Anna Margaret (?) translator could not read) b. 11 Jan bap. 15 Mar Sponsors: Michael Scholl (o not a - could be typo in translation) and Christine Beck

Page 81 1768 Andrew Schall wf. Anna Elizabeth John Michael b. 6 Mar bap 17 Apr Sponsors: Michael Schall and Eva Stocker

Page 83 Baptism by the Rev. John Wm. Pythan
1772 Andres Schall wf. Elizabeth John Peter b. 10 July bap. 9 Aug 1772 Sponsors: Peter Pfeiffer and wf. Anna Maria

Page 86 1774 John George Schall wf. Anna Maria John Michael b. 13 May bap 5 June Sponsors: Catharine Dorr (her name first) and Michael Wolff

Page 87 1774 Andrew Schall wf. Elizabeth Anna Maria b. 8 Aug bap 23 Oct Sponsors: Maria Barbara Roth (her name first) and John Lindt

Page 81 There were 3 marriages listed: 19 June 1764 George Beck was married to Catharine Kohler

"Register of those confirmed and those who participated in the Lord's Supper, beginning with Pentecost, that is, May 22, 1763."
Lists then followed.
Page 91 On the adult list: #53 Nicholas Schall; #54 Margaret his wife (below them at #55 and #56 were the sponsors to Andres Schall's son John Peter - Peter Pfeiffer and wife Anna Maria; #57 George Beck and wife #58 Elizabeth (It's up to you to figure all these people out!!!! - because evidently a different George Beck married Catharine the following year and who knows if these Becks are related to you but thought I would include everything).

Page 93 On Holy Easter, 1764 #22 Nicholas Schall; #23 Anna Margaret, wife

Page 94 14th Sunday after Trinity 1764 #61 Nicholas Schall; #62 wife Catharine

Page 94 1765 Pentecost, following persons attended the Holy Communion, after having been confirmed: On the children's list: #3 John Michael Schall; #13 Christine Beck List of adults: #3 Nicholas Schall; #4 wife Catharine; #44 Nicholas Schall, Jr.; #45 Anna Margaret - wife; #86 Andrew Schall

Page 96 1766 #7 Nicholas Schall; #8 Catharine - wife; #9 Michael - son; #36 Nicholas Schall, Jr.; #37 Margaret - wife; #38 George Beck; #39 Elizabeth (no mention if this was his wife); #67 Andrew Schall

Page 97 1766 21st Sunday after Trinity #5 Nicholas Schall; #6 Catharine, wf.; #7 John Michael, son; #61 Andrew Schall

Page 98 1767 Easter #55 Michael Schall

Page 99 1767 11th Sunday after Trinity #81 Anna Maria Beck

Page 99 1767 18th Sunday after Trinity #16 Nicholas Schall; #17 Catharine, wf.

Page 100 1768 Sunday Jubilate #28 Nicholas Scholl (o not a); #29 Catharine, wf.; #30 John Michael Schall; #94 Andrew Schall; #135 Nicholas Schall; #136 Anna Margaret, wf.; #137 Christine Beck

Page 102 1769 Sunday Cantate #69 Nicholas Schall; #70 Catharine, wf.; #71 Hans Michael, son (is it possible that he is the name that should be on the baptism from 1767 where there is no name listed?)

Page 103 1769 22nd Sunday after Trinity #27 Anna Margaret Beck

Page 104 1770 Day of Pentecost #94 Nicholas Schall; #95 Catharine, wf.; #96 Michael, son

Page 105 1770 19th Sunday after Trinity #36 Nicholas Schall; #37 Michael Schall

Page 106 1771 1st Day of Pentecost #61 Anna Maria Beck; #64 Anna Margaret Beck

Page 106 1771 20th Sunday after Trinity #5 Nicholas Schall; #6 Catharine, wf.; #7 Michael, son

Page 107 1772 Pentecost #6 Nicholas Schall; #7 Catharine, wf; #8 John Michael, son

Page 110-111 1781 21st Sunday after Trinity 4 Nov 1781 1st Communion #13 Simon Peter Scholl (o not a) son of Nicholas, age 15

Page 113 1783 25th Sunday after Trinity 12 Nov 1783 #44 Michael Schall; #45 Maria, wf.

Page 115 1784 Oct 17th #55 Catharine Schall

From page 115 to page 161 (1801) there were no more Schalls listed. Interesting that Nicholas and Catherine were listed year after year for communion and then when she died (1772 you had stated) the family is no longer listed. Maybe they moved away.

Do hope this helps in your family search. If I can look up anything else, please let me know.

This isn't much but there is an Ellis Island record of Alfio's immigration.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JNY3-DMV

He is going to cousin FN? Pontillo, Belvale, NJ (perhaps Belleville, Essex County), in 1913. However, he stated he lived in Roseto (Northampton County) from 1907-1909.

There is a 1908 arrival (last name transcribed as Riceruto) showing his going to a cousin, Savatore Mulia, in Bangor, PA. Perhaps Alfio met Maria through this cousin.

Note: The manifest names are not completely legible so I may have read them incorrectly.

Many of the PA marriages are online at Familysearch.org. Northampton County is complete for the period, and there is no record of a marriage in Northampton County or elsewhere in PA.

Pennsylvania German Church Records Available

In 1892 the Pennsylvania German Society formed committees to gather and translate early Pennsylvania German church records to be published in their annual journal. They were published between 1893 and 1925. They are now out of copyright and available for free download (archive.org or books.google.com). In 1983 they were extracted and compiled in a 3 volume set, which is now available but quite expensive.

I have gone through the Pennsylvania-German Society Proceedings and found the locations of the original printings in their annual journals and have found free ebook copies of all volumes containing translated church records, except volume 18. I thought the following might help someone else looking for early Pennsylvania German church records. I am also hoping someone might know where I could find volume 18, which contains the records for the Williams Township (Saucon) Congregation, Northampton County.

Most of these are most easily found on archive.org by searching for “Pennsylvania German Society Proceedings”. Feel free to email if you would like links to specific titles in archive.org or google books. I found the following 11 churches and 1 cemetery, please let me know if anyone knows of any additional translations that were printed in this journal.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Pa. (baptisms 1747-1799)
Pennsylvania-German Society Proceedings and Addresses:
v. 3, 1893, p. 191-292 (1747 – 1774)
v. 4, 1894, p. 188-248 (1774 - 1786)
v. 5, 1895, p. 173-200 (1786 – 1792)
v. 6, 1896, p. 251-283 (1793 – 1799)

First Reformed Church, Lancaster, Pa.

Ancestry.com has in their card catalog a 1937 WPA project giving pretty good descriptions and histories of PA churches. It also lists what records might still be in existence. Mt Bethel Presbyterian has a six page description linked here:
http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/View.aspx?dbid=2795&pa...

It looks like the church started in 1813. The link above only gives you a description of the church, not the records. Ancestry.com has many PA church records in its "Pennsylvania, Church and Town Records, 1708-1985" linked below, but I don't see your church listed. Sometimes you'll find them listed under a different town, might be worth searching Northampton County for it:
http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2451&enc=...

familysearch.org (Church of Latter Day Saints) has a way to search their catalog by geographic location and Mt Bethel Presbyterian showed up as one of their records. It looks like they have church records microfilmed, including baptismal records from 1813 to 1898. I haven't done it yet, but I believe you can go to a local Family History Center (links on same pages below) and request any microfim for $7.50 to use at their locations. Links below are familysearch.org links:

Catalog link:
https://familysearch.org/catalog-search

Mt Bethel Presbyterian catalog entry:
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/395838

The Lynn-Hiedelberg Historical Society has a brief history of Rev William Hellfrich on their website.

http://www.lynnheidelberg.org/lebensbild.html

It looks like he was a travelling preacher. The site mentions him preaching from Tamaqua to Longswamp to Macungie - these are in Schuylkill, Berks, and Lehigh Counties repectively. The site mentions more specific areas/churches he preached in. It might be worth checking Ancestry's "Pennsylvania Church and Town Records" using these counties in the search.
http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2451&enc=...

I am searching for Revolutionary War records for the Easton/Forks area of Northampton County. I have located Battalion and Company information for Northampton County but can not find Northampton County at all in the "U.S. Compiled Revolutionary War Military Service Records, 1775-1783 " on Ancestry.com.

Does anyone know if Northampton County records exist in this resource? Perhaps there is a Regiment number I need??
