I just did a little research on Cora for Joelene Slater and I will share what I have found. The McKean County census of 15 Jun 1900 shows:
Ellison Rice, head of household, b. 9/1865, age 34, m. 5yrs, he and parents b. in PA
Ada Rice, wife, b. 10.1864, age 35, m. 5yrs, she and parents b. in PA, 2 living and 2 dead children.
Cora Rice, dau, b. 2/1896, age 4.
Oipha/Aipha? Rice, dau, b. 5/1897, age 3
From this we can conclude that J.E.'s middle name was Ellison. Since, I do not have complete census records, you may check previous records to determine his parentage. Also, since I have lots of Rice info, and you can find out who his father is, I may be able to help you more.
