Glad to hear--- Oliver P Hess the Surveyor was my GGG Uncle, and I didn't mention his son in my previous post because O.P. junior because he was a Jr, and not a contemporary of the first two. The ne Oliver Perry was popular because of the famous General Oliver Perry of War of 1812 fame. :-)

i know this post is 13 years old, but maybe we can help each other. my 3x g grandfather, john kendel born england 1808 married rebecca about 1830, resided in lycoming county per the 1830 and 1840 census. i found eleanor there, married to pass, and traced her to george thomas kendall in liverpool, england.

eleanor had a brother john, but he stayed in england. i'm looking for a connection, maybe cousins, between john and eleanor. feel free to contact me should you receive this reply.
Both are correct--there were two Oliver Perry Hesses:
(1) born 1879, son of Harmon J. & Sarah J. (Markle) Hess, in Fishing Creek, Columbia, PA

and

(2) born 1836 in Lycoming PA to Benjamin & Eliza Hess.
Oliver P (1) went on to become a surveyor and engineer in Dubois, Clearfield, PA; Oliver P (2) can be found as a Postmaster in Lycoming, PA as an adult.

I'm researching Alva Frost, from Tompkins, New York. I know he married Agnes Knarr, who was from Clinton Counaty, PA. Their children were Charles, William, Francis (aka Jennie), Josephine (my great grandmother), Maynard, and Rosanna. I'm trying to locate Alva's parents. In New York in 1855 he was listed as step-son to Alpha Hollenbeck, whose wife was Effa Jane Owens Hollenbeck. Sally Frost and Henrietta Frost were also listed as step children. If you have any other information, please contact me.

Is there a list available in and around Antes Forte, that would have the names of men who were registered as soldiers/sailors during the War of 1812? My four times great grandfather, James Cook, lived in that area from as early as 1820 and possibly earlier. He was born around 1788 and two of his sons, Samuel and Robert, fought in the Civil War. I don't have any clues leading to this but curosity has gotten the better of me. The last information I could find on James was that he is listed on the 1850 Census in Lycoming County. Any information, or clues for me to follow, will be appreciated.

Looking for info on WM CORDERMAN B:Abt 1843 to David and Anna Siberts Catherman (Katherman) in Lycoming Cty, PA. I think he had at least 2 children, William and Daniel. I've been unable to find a wife or any info on William's service in the Civil War or a burial date/site. His son William went by the spelling "Cotterman" and lived in Columbia County, PA. According to "find a grave" it looks like some of Wm's (1843) siblings moved to the state of Iowa. Would love to exchange info with anyone researching these names.

According to "find a grave" it looks like some of Wm's (1843) siblings moved to the state of Iowa. Would love to exchange info with anyone researching these names.

You and my husband certainly do have a connection. He is related to Margaret, dau of Lillie Graham. Lillie's mother was Mary Ann Satzler, born in Mifflin County PA.

I met a man named Talley at my place of employment in Yeagertown PA. He said "Just remember Talleyho". That gives me the chills now. He was a teamster as was I.

Sue, I think you have the answer in regard to my Moore ancestors from Lycoming Co. I did try to answer your post of 4 Jan 2004, but did not hear back. Deborah Ann Moore the daughter of Isaac Moore is my g.grandmother. I need info on her Father and Mother--birth, death, marriage, etc. Deborah has been our mystery woman and you may have the answer we need on her family. I have her born in Pine Creek, married to George Bacon in Tioga Co in 1843. Father Rev. War Patriot. Need for our files and application to the DAR. Thanks a million for any help.
I am always working on one branch or another. Ironically we might have a dual connection as my father is descended from the Lamade's and my mother is descended from the Diehl's. We were all born in Williamsport.
I have reprinted versions in sot and hard cover on "The History of the Talley's on the Deleware." The book has allowed me to trace my direct line back through the early years in Delaware to ancient Rome, Greece and to early people who only had 1 name, such as Eathelred. Let me know if you would like to talk and we could share our common threads.
KT

Do you happen to have a copy of the record or perhaps a newspaper clipping? I understand the announcement may have been printed in the Clinton Democrate or the Renovo Record.

My great grand father Harry H. Hunter was born in North Bend, Clinton Co, PA and he states that his father was "Eligh Hunter". Eligh/Elijah would have been born abt. 1855 as he was 26 when Harry was born in 1881 to Catherine A. Campbell Hunter.

Catherine and Elijah likely married in 1880 or early 1881 as I have found Elijah (Elijh) on 1880 Census for Chapman Township (wherein North Bend is located), Clinton Co., PA listed as a single boarder, laborer living in the same home as a "Kate Dewitt", 33, married, servant. She has a son "Irvin" who would have been born around 1875 and I have records that show my great grandfather Harry had a brother, Irvin, born in 1875.

I'm wondering if this is the same Elijah that married Anna in 1880, the marriage didn't last long - months perhaps. Though I have not found a marriage record pinning Elijah and Catherine's date.

In the 1900 census, Catherine is listed as a widow so Elijah was dead by then.

I have been focused on Cammal, looks like I need to move my focus westward a bit on North Bend.

the level of info about Hunters on the findagrave site is greatly limited and I have already mined this source, as well as data from a personal visit to the Cammal cemetery many years ago. Many of the older grave markers I fear have worn down to a point where they are virtually unreadable. Case in point, the grave stone for Mabel Hunter (1904-1905) was so worn in the late 1980's that I had to do a pencil rub in order to get any information. I image that by now that technique may even be unusable. (note to self: Add Mabel Lorena Hunter to findagrave).

I'm not sure about the original post author (ElizabethCrompton ) but I am also very interested in the Pine Creek Valley and the Pioneer. I would be interested if the JVB Library has any of the paper and if so which issues.

I am researching the Hunter family - Elijah (abt. 1855-before 1900) and sons Irvin (1875-1953) and Harry (1861-1946) - out of Cammal and the Campbell family (one of the founding families in the Cammal area). Elijah (spelling is questionable) married into the Campbell family with Catherine Anne Campbell (1856-1930).

I have very little information on Elijah Hunter. My hopes is that perhaps the Pine Creek Pioneer may have some information.

If the JVB Library, or perhaps the LCGS, has Pioneer issues, I can plan my own trip.

Many thanks.
Bryan

What exactly are you looking for? I am not familiar with the "Pioneer". The James V Brown library has a pretty extensive collection of newspapers digitized and on microfilm. I am heading out to the area in April and will visit the library as well as the LCGS. I can check it out for you if you provide some additional details.

David

In 2002 when I was looking for this info. I found very little.I know that the state of PA was digitizing old newspapers then but they did not have the Pioneer. Possibly the Brown Library in Williamsport now has some in their collection, also the library at Lycoming Genealogical Society. The only ones I could locate were from Spencer Kraybill's book "PA's Pine Creek Valley and Pioneer Families." Spence has since died and his widow possibly dispensed with his gen. collection. Please keep me posted. My DAR roots start with Robert Campbell of Cammal b. 1762, d. 1837, married to Rachel Morrison.

I am a descendant of Lycoming County Holmes. The earliest Holmes I have records for is Charles C. Holmes (1841-1913). His son, Charles W. Holmes (1875-1948) was one of the last blacksmiths of Lycoming County.

I'd be interested in comparing notes to see if there is a link between our families and possibly share information.

Thanks.
