What I said was records I have show that Elizabeth, the widow of James Patterson was married to a James Fargus and it was not a daughter of James Patterson named Elizabeth.
As I already posted in this thread, I received the following information from the Lycoming County Genealogical Society which is from a book of abstracts of probates between the years 1795-1850:
James Patterson of Wayne Township
Dated: 10/23/1804
Orphans Court Book B
Page 123: Robert eldest son of James petitioning in Feb term 1832 for the widow, Elizabeth, since married with James Fargus, and 4 children: the petitioner, Ann, wife of George Donaldson, Nancy, and Elizabeth White Patterson, all above 21 years - petition to divide the property.
As you can see it says "the widow, Elizabeth, since married with James Fargus". The earliest document I have in my possession where Elizabeth, the widow, is referred to as married to James Fargus is 1823.
At the Lycoming County Genweb website I have seen a marriage listed for a James Fargus and Betsey Patterson who were married by Rev. John Hays Grier on 15 Jan 1817 but it gives no further details. Do you have any information to confirm that that James Fargus is the same James Fargus who went to Ontario. You say the abstract of his will indicates he was a widower but it doesn't give the name of his late wife. How do you know it was Elizabeth/Betsy? I only have a piece of circumstantial evidence which may suggest that is my Elizabeth as her daughter Ann Patterson was married to George Donaldson by Rev. Grier in 1819.
And in this case "late" means "immediately preceding the present one; former" as in formerly known as Elizabeth Patterson.
I'm just trying to find out if I have the wrong date for my Elizabeth Love Patterson's marriage to James Fargus. I have proof that my Elizabeth was married to a James Fargus when living in Lycoming County. So far I've seen nothing that confirms that the James Fargus who went to Ontario is the same one who was married to Betsey Patterson.
