John H. Coyle, b. Oct. 10, 1862, disappeared after discharging from Myers Island Hospital, California. Reportedly, he served as a U.S. Marine in the Spanish-American War (or Boxer Rebellion??). According to a letter or telegram sent to his mother at the time, he entered the hospital for treatment of pneumonia then disappeared upon discharge from the hospital. It was thought he had been 'shanghai-ed' which supposedly was common in that area at that time. He was the son of my gg grandparents Owen and Catherine (Hill) Coyle of Beaver Brook (which is near Hazleton). In a family album, I have an unidentified photo of several service men taken in Singapore, one of the men, I believe, is John. Anyone with info on John or the likelihood of this family story would be most appreciated. I need help unravelling this family mystery.
