I am trying to find Mary and Augusta's real surnames. Does anyone have a record of who they were? The girls were dropped off at Peter and Wilhelmina's home in southern Michigan and moved on to Pennsylvania. Now I learn that Peter moved to Pennsylvania.

A daughter of Mary is still alive. Mary is on the 1900 census living in the Rehlich household, noted adopted. (Augusta was there too).

Thanks! Any info would help.

My great, great, great, great, great grandfather (I am not sure of the number of "greats") was a Bernard Hubley who served on General George Washington's staff and who wrote two of what was to be three volumes on the history of the American Revolution (not completed because of Bernard's death.

He was encouraged by General Washington to undertake this work. As a result General Washington was listed along with Bernard in the authorship of this work.

I don't whether this is the same Bernard Hubley referenced earlier.

Have you tried locating your family people on the website Find a Grave? I have family buried there also and located them there which gave plot and section number. Also, when we went to search there we first visited the Greenwood Cem office on S. Queen St at Highland St, 719 is the number, in Lancaster. The telephone number i Have for them is 717-392-1224, hours 8-4 Mon -Fri. They were very helpful. Also the LCHS has a list of lot owners for the Woodward Hill Cem. I hope this helps. It's been a few years since I gotten this information though.

Find A Grave you can go to the Cemetery and select all the people buried there by certain name.

Good Luck.
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there might know if there is a Masonic Cemetery for the Masons Memorial Hospital in West Donegal Township, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
I am looking to see if a man by the name of John W. Mansfield and his wife Pauline B. (Robinson) Mansfied, might be buried there, or somewhere in Lancaster County.
I found John W. Mansfield and his wife Pauline B. Mansfield both listed as lodgers at the Masons Memorial Hospital in West Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This listing was on the 1940 Federal Census, he was listed as 78 years old from Ohio, and she as 63 from Pennsylvania.
I am wondering if they both would have died at that hospital and if so I am trying to find where they are buried?
John W. Mansfield was born in 1862 in Ohio.
Any Help would be appreciated!

Thank you, Keith Lawrence

k79lawrence@gmail.com

York County was originally Lancaster County. There are a lot of Grim's in Southern York County. Not all marriages of that time period were made within 3 miles of thier home. Many times allied families moved but retained relationships and encouraged marriage of cousins so property remained in the family. Even in 1750 when people settled roads were cut and a mile is still a mile. Walking the current mile long bridge from York to Lancaster Co takes about 20-30 minutes. Ferries dotted the river banks and the river was the main highway for trade. So, traveling may have taken a little longer because of rougher terrain. But the opporunity to marry someone more that 3 miles away did indeed exsist. My early families for that same time period spread from Lancaster Co, York Co, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky. As territory opened up they pressed on. Sometimes with out permission of the natives.

I was out trying to find information about Martin Grimm (d. 1755) on Monday, I found his will and it mentions he has 3 children (2 boys, 1 girl). But doesn't name them. I also found his inventory and debts to be paid. I didn't find any orphans court records. Does that mean the children weren't minors?

Also, I'm still obviously stuck on who my Elizabeth Grimm's parents were. How far away do you think her parents lived for her to marry someone from Lancaster County? I'm finding Grimms in adjacent counties, but their Elizabeths married other people. If Martin's children weren't minors, then Elizabeth isn't his dauhther. She also doesn't seem to fit with the Peter Grimm & Anna Maria Wolf who lived in Lancaster. All their children were accounted for by their baptisms found at familysearch.org. If she were theirs, she was the first daughter/child born to them after their marriage in 1739, the next child was born in 1741. Plus they had a Maria Elizabeth in 1750. That would have given them 2 Elizabeths.

I guess my ultimate question is.....How far would she have travelled to marry someone who lived in Lancaster Borough, Lancaster County, PA in the late 1750's? Was it common to marry or be courted by someone so far away as an adjacent county or would she have had to have lived in or very near the city of Lancaster? Her husband, Martin Dorwart was 24 years old, her, barely 19 or 20. Would it have been customary for him to travel to Lebanon Twp or Berks County, Chester or even York County? Where would she have come from given she doesn't really fit with the Lancaster Grimms nor those in Berks and Lehigh Counties? And the only ones known in Lancaster were Martin & Peter? Any help appreciated. Racking my brain tryin to find even a possibility as to her parents. Leaning towards Peter & Anna Maria Wolf Grimm. There's a 2-3 year gap after their marriage unaccounted for in terms of children. Elizabeth coulda been the first, but no account of her birth can be found and they were living in Germany at the time. Out of all their children, her baptism would be the only one that can't be found. If she is their child.

I didn't hear much about Sarah because it hurt my great grandma Catherine to talk about it. I know about my grandma Catherine's marriages...she was married to Carl Abel then to a man with the surname Hess. She died Catherine M. Hess. Catherine had 4 children Robert Abel, Gloria, Karen And John. Gloria is my grandmother and her daughter Catherine is my mother.

Andrew Fry b. 1776, wife Lydia, Lancaster Co., PA

According to Family Tree DNA, Andrew Fry b. 1776 married Lydia and had sons Samuel & Reuben.

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/frey/pats.

According to the Pedigree, kit number 192955 is a descendant of Jacob M Fry b. 1839 who is the son of a Samuel Fry b. 1807 and his wife Catherine Meese.

It shows the other kit, number 192956, to be a descendant of Reuben Fry b. 1824.

Samuel b. 1807 & Reuben b. 1824 are both shown as sons of Andrew Fry b. 1776 & his wife Lydia.

But if you go to the y-Results page, kit number 192955 is in Haplogroup I and kit number 192956 is in Haplogroup J. This means that these two descendants are not related.
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/frey/results

According to my calculations, you would have to go back about 120 generations to find where these two people share a common ancestor.
http://fryingpan.redheadkelly.net/MRCA-whole-Fry-project.htm...

If you look at the Lancaster records found online, there is a Samuel who was born in 1809 & married an Eliza.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M4HG-LH6

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=11...

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=11...

This Samuel has children with the same names as Reuben b. 1824. It seems that he is more likely the brother of Reuben.

I am not able to find Samuel b. 1807 on any census records. I do find his son Jacob b. 1839 starting on the 1870 census, but no sign of Samuel.

Jacob, his wife, and his mother Catherine Meese are all buried in Millport Mennonite Cemetery along with Reuben, the other Samuel & their families. This makes it confusing.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSiman...

There is a burial listing for Samuel b. 1809 & his wife Eliza. There is also a burial listing for Catherine Meese Fry, wife of Samuel b. 1807, but no burial listing for Samuel b. 1807.

It does seem that there are two Samuels. One born March 14th, 1807 and one born February 12th, 1809.

The DNA is telling us that the descendant of Samuel b. 1807 is not related to the descendant of Reuben b. 1824.

My conclusion is that Reuben b. 1824 and Samuel b. 1809 are brothers and Samuel b. 1807 is descended from an entirely different Fry line. My question is which Samuel is the son of Andrew Fry who married Lydia.

Any help is appreciated!

Lancaster Co Witmers can be difficult to unravel. It's been estimated there were as many as eleven or twelve distinct early Witmer families, which doesn't include families that arrived later.

Do you know which township he lived in? Knowing this, deeds and tax records may help you identify his family. A young man coming of age or newly married often appears on the tax lists next to his father and/or brothers. The tax lists are usually semi-alphabetical, so you can't assume a relationship, but it gives you a good place to start. And, with so many Witmers around, you need a way to narrow down your search.

I have my own index to many (but probably not all) of the Witmer deeds. I find Martin Witmer in 1821, no township listed; Martin Witmer in Earl Twp in 1844; Martin B. Witmer in Manor Twp and Lanc Boro in the 1850s; Martin Witmer in Conestoga Twp in 1854; Martin Witmer in New Holland in 1860; and Martin Witmer in W. Lampeter in 1864. Could any of these be your Martin F. Witmer? If so I'll send you the deed info. The deeds can be accessed online at the website of the Lancaster Co Register of Deeds.

There is really only one LEIB family in Lancaster County --- and the immigrant ancestor Ulrich LEIB had 7 sons...6 of whom married daughters of neighboring landowners surrounding their father's land in Lancaster County. So it might help to know about the LEIBs.

For what it is worth I didn't find any marriage to a WITMER in my LEIB file but it might be worth pursuing. If you can't find the parents of your Martin F. WITMER through direct research looking into who they married and their family can often help you break down that brick wall.

Joan

Well, I have good news and bad news. I think I have a photograph of the tombstone. But it is not completely legible. It was third in the row and the one next to it was the person that should be 4th in Row G. You may be able to digitally manipulate the image to get it readable by inverting it and playing with settings. I see Catharina on the stone and in the photo. Some of the dates can be made out.

When I left my town it was sunny. When I got to the church, it was snowing. When I returned home, it was raining. Now, 5 minutes later, it is sunny again. Crazy. It is only 5 miles away. If I get out that way again soon, I will try to take another photo, but doubt that it will be much better.

I do have others that I took of the surrounding gravestones if you want them.

Cemetery at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church

I am hoping that someone would be able to look for a headstone for me. It is located at the cemetery next to Zion Evangelical Church in Manheim, PA. The person that I am looking for is my 4th great-grandmother. Her name is Catherina Seesholtz and she is buried in row G. Her name could be spelled multiple ways, including Seasholtz, Susholtz, or Eichholz, etc.
Dates of birth/death: 1782-1854
Also, her husband's name was Georg.
I would really appreciate anyone who would be willing to look for me and perhaps photograph it!!!! My family would be very grateful!!

One possibility (and I would underline the word "possibility" if I could) might be the following man: Michael Myers, son of John Myers and Anna Maria Therstinger (or Therithinger) of Donegal Twp, Lancaster Co.

This family was part of the Brethren in Church community. I don't have a year of birth for Michael, but his brothers were born in 1777 and 1778. That fits with the timeframe in which your Michael was born.

John Myers died in 1821 leaving property. There is a deed from 1823 in which Michael "Meyer" of Addison Twp, Somerset Co, PA (and formerly of Donegal Twp) sold his share in his father's land to his brothers, Henry and John. Michael's wife was not named in this deed. This is everything I have on Michael.

Deborah: I descend from the Sprigel or Spriegel family in Euphrata Colony. I would like to learn about their role in the cloister and experiences: Johannes Sprigel-Jacob Sprigel/Feronica-Michael Sprigel/Maria Gless-Emanuel Spriggle/Elizabeth Snyder.
Emanuel moved to Canal Fulton, Ohio, in the early 1800s. Is there any information about why he and his wife Elizabeth left Pennsylvania?
Can you tell me the meaning of the name Sprigel? I would also like to learn where the family lived before coming to America. Will there be a fee for your research?
Thanks and continued best wishes,
Ron Romig, rromig@cofchrist.org
Trying to find out who his parents are. He was born in 1821 and died 1876. He married Mary Eliza Louvier in Old St. George Methodist Episcopal Church on 11 June 1849. Does anyone have any information or any books they can check. I've just exhausted all resources. I'm desperate!
