The limited information I have on the Pine Grove Primitive Methodist Church and its cemetery comes from the book "Thornhurst and the Upper Lehigh River" written by James E. Howley of Thornhurst and published by him in 2001. I purchased a copy of his book from the Lackawanna Historical Society. In his book he mentions the church closed in the 1930s, was sold at auction and dismantled. He also wrote that though the Pine Grove Cemetery dates back to the early 1800s, the deed for the land was not recorded until 14 Sep 1896 (book 141, pg 457, Lackawanna Co. Courthouse). He didn't write much more about the church and cemetery, but his book does include a photo of the church and is a good source of information on Thornhurst and its inhabitants in the mid 1800s to early 1900s.
