I will have to ask my cousin in law about her father's faith. Maybe she will have some further insights. Something we always wondered about was whether the siblings were able to visit with one another in the orphanage. I assume that probably divided children according to ages and sex. It will be interesting to find out what your cousin has to say. I will pass this picture along to my husband's cousin. I agree, I think your family was lucky to have been able to stay together. My mother in law wasn't put in the orphanage and she felt terrible about being separated from her brothers. Her life might have been better if she had been in the orphange (depending of course, on how the children were treated there). I don't think she knew why she was not put there, but I suspect that as a nine year old she was old enough to be useful as a maid for her grandmother. I do know that she never went farther than the 3rd grade in school.
